Cowboys draft and free agency
I like this draft class better than last years. Cee Dee Lamb is a top 10 talent and basically Dez Bryant reborn. A super physical receiver who is dominate on 50/50 balls and YAC. WR was not a need, but when a player of this caliber drops to 17 you simply have to take him. This was one of the most WR heavy drafts of the last decade and they got arguably the the most can't miss prospect.

With the addition of Lamb, the offense has an embarrassment of riches and talent. In fact this is probably as talented as any cowboys offense in franchise history. And they already led the NFL in yardage last season, even though the team struggled as a whole.

They did not get edge rush help in the early rounds, but outside of Chase Young (the #2 overall pick) its questionable if there was anyone on the board who would have been an impact player. Maybe the guy from LSU but that would have been a much riskier pick than taking Lamb.

They also have edge rusher Randy Gregory who is expected to be reinstated this summer, and with the new pot rules in the CBA it looks like he will never again be suspended for pot no matter if he fails a test or not. So truth be told edge rush may not have been such a need after all. Former pro bowl DE Aldon Smith also signed last month, but who knows if he can still play or keep it together.

They got secondary help in the 2nd and mid rounds, and took another Wisconsin center since Travis Frederick had to retire.

The biggest upgrade on the team by far is at DT, were they signed Dontari Poe and Gerald McCoy. Those are two of the best run stopping DT's in the entire NFL and is a MASSIVE upgrade at a position they have been weak at for several years. DT will now be a real strength instead of an obvious weakness.

They also picked up Ha-Ha Clinton Dix at safety, which is another position they have been weak at in recent years.

Based on some of these picks and FA signings, they may be looking to transition to more 3-4 instead of 4-3 on defense. But its hard to say at this point.

As one of Jerry's biggest detractors, I will admit that they absolutely killed it in this draft. CDL may be the best WR in this draft and they haven't had a 1-2-3 punch at wideout/ slot like this in a long time. No doubt in my mind that Travis Fredrick spends a lot of time working with the C from Wisconsin. That kid may be a steal. The secondary will be much improved with Ha Ha and Diggs. Now, lets just hope football is back this fall.

Stay on that yacht, Jerry and run the show from there!

RE: Cowboys draft and free agency
Cornerback Trevon Diggs from Alabama was projected to be a late 1st rounder in some of the mock projections. Much like Lamb he was not expected to still be there at #51, but they lucked out.

He may end up being a safety eventually. He played WR some at Alabama and is a physical DB. Scouts claim the only question with him is his speed for an NFL corner, so how long he plays corner will probably depend on how his speed transitions to NFL WR's.

I don't know much about the DT Gallimore, but the scouts all say he is one of the most athletic DL in the draft and has a freakish 40 time for a 304 pound lineman. I watched several of his highlight reels/scouting reports and a lot of people are really high on him. I hope they are right.

They took DT Trysten Hill (UCF) and DE Joe Jackson from Miami last year. It typically takes most DL a couple of years to begin to produce, most don't make an instant impact. Hopefully one of both of them can begin to make some noise this year. It would be huge if Joe Jackson could get some edge rush production.

Only if they have the same injury bug as last season.

I'd say 10-6 most likely. 8-8 is probably the floor.

Mike McCarthy is a better HC than Garrett. NFL HC's are often better on their 2nd gig.

RE: Cowboys draft and free agency
As post draft analysis unfolds, the cowboys front office is being almost universally praised by all for this draft class. Everyone seems to think they knocked it out of the park.

That actually worries me a little. lol

It does look much better on paper than last years class. So far Tony Pollard is the only guy producing from the 2019 class, and he is a backup and special teams player (he is a darn good one though). Hopefully they get more production out of that class in its 2nd season.

RE: Cowboys draft and free agency
One guy to keep an eye on is the 5th round DE Bradley Anae from Utah. He had 13 sacks last year against PAC-12 competition, and has consistently been one of the most productive pass rushers in the nation the last 3 years. He has also had some of his best games against elite NFL caliber tackles.

So why was he still on the board in the 5th round? Because he lacks all the measurable physical traits and athleticism teams look for in an NFL DE. Basically he sucks at the combine and all the measurables, but once you put the pads on and start the game he is one of the best in the country.

Sometimes guys can just flat out play and it goes beyond measurables. If this guy can play his game at the next level, 4 years from now he could be seen as one of the best steals of this draft.

As a Jags fan who is an avid draft prepper, your Cowboys rocked this draft!

I'd be stoked if I was I 'Boys fan!

And, you have some Tigers! Dontari Poe and Tony Pollard. I had heard rumor of Gotti signings before the draft, too. Who knows?
