Fall 2020 enrollment updates (online or in person)
I thought it would be interesting to keep track of official announcements from schools on whether they'll be business as usual in the fall, or online only. Purdue University (where my daughter will attend) sent an email from its president yesterday guaranteeing they would be business as usual (barring unforeseen circumstances I guess). But yesterday was also the day one school basically said they're going online for the fall.

Cal State Fullerton said the following in a press release.

“Like every university in America, we are working through the unknowns of the current pandemic as we plan for the fall 2020 semester,” the university said in a statement Tuesday. “To make sure we are prepared for all variables, but with the goal that we can offer in-person instruction, we are asking our faculty to be prepared to start the semester teaching virtually.”

So chalk that as a maybe?

Keep in mind that the fall enrollment number is typically taken after the eighth or tenth class day of the semester/quarter. That's the number they give to the Department of Education and what their Institutional Research departments use.

The next few weeks are a good time to watch for these announcements. IIRC, most schools have a deadline of June 1 for new students to accept offers of admission.

Wake Forest and UNC-Ch, both of which are stealing from me, have gently indicated an online Fall. They have not outright said it but have dangled it out there.

August 1st and August 15th are also important dates as those are the beginning of drop dead tuition payment

Waiting for the overeducated college president to declare that there will never be residential college ever again.
