Stephenville Municipal airport does not have a long enough runway nor the room to expand the runway to have 737’s land. What does the University and BOR do. A&M has their own airport that was built specifically with the school in mind after the AFB west of College Station shut down.

Nearest runway that can support 737’s is in Mineral Wells 45 miles away.

Yeah... working from home gives me time to think about BS like this.

No offense intended, I like small cities.....but my understanding is that even Greyhound doesn't make it to Stephenville. Chartering 737s seems like overkill.

Unless you've got locally based charter buses it seems like there's no point to flying in other than the coolness factor. A team arriving at the municipal airport would still need to charter a bus to get to campus and lodgings; the bus company would probably be based in Fort Worth, and would be making the drive empty from there but still charging for it. Might as well take a regularly scheduled flight to DFW and charter the bus from there.

Athletic dept is already meeting Charter companies for flying out of smaller airports closer to Stephenville. There are multiple charter bus companies in the Fort Worth Area that the University already uses.

RE: Travel Logistics
I wonder if Tarleton State will contract with the local-based air charter, Meregrass Aviation? They operate out of their own airport near Lingleville, Quahadi Ranch Airport, which has a 6,295-foot runway. The biggest aircraft in their fleet is a 30-passenger Saab 2000 twin turboprop, which cruises at 425 mph at a max certified ceiling of 31,000 ft. and has non-stop range of over 1,300 miles. It can also operate out of airfields as short as 4,000 feet. Not sure if an entire basketball team and staff can fit on this Saab 2000, but it seems logical to travel out of the Quahadi Ranch Airport just 15-20 minutes from campus.
Here’s the charter service’s website: https://meregrass.com/

Holy research Batman. That's a great option. 6000 ft runway is the minimum for 737's as well.

Serious question, I'm just someone who watches sports and doesn't know this stuff.....what's the special significance of a 737? Is it the minimum plane to carry a football team with equipment and staff?

Pretty sure a basketball team could get on a much smaller plane.

Just an assumption, but 737s are common and large enough to get team, equipment, staff, reporters etc where ever on one flight.
