RE: Deandre Williams
I don't trust the corrupt biased NCAA at all.
My gut feeling is they will approve the waivers for both Williams and Nolley, but then hit Memphis with a tournament ban as part of the sanctions to stick it to Penny.
Or, they'll deny their waivers and give Penny and Memphis the big middle finger for the Wiseman embarrassment it caused them.
I applaud Penny for being optimistic, but he's naive if he really thinks the NCAA will be fair.
Hopefully I'm wrong though and they get approved and no further sanctions are put on the program.
But I'm not holding my breath.

RE: Deandre Williams
I always get the feeling that we (UofM) have to just sit back and take it in the WAZOO from the NCAA ... cause we're afraid of getting the BIG ONE.
I still feel DeAndre get's the waiver ... and Nolley doesn't. And we say oh well and keep our fingers crossed on a light penalty ... Maybe a 3 game suspension for Penny.
JMHO ...

I think Nolley gets his waiver seeing the NCAA made him sit a year already erroneously. They even admitted it.

RE: Deandre Williams
Transfer eligibility and the Wiseman ruling are supposedly 2 separate issues. That's one of the reasons for the IRP - keeping (the appearance of) impartiality.
The staff think there's a good case for Nolley - based on the freshman year he sat - and Williams - based upon the craziness at Evansville last year.
Didn't I read a few months ago that the IRP hoped to have a ruling in July-August?

RE: Deandre Williams
So like others, I thought Williams would likely be granted a waiver and probably not Nolley. Things are definitely looking good!!

Bird was 21 when drafted and had one year of college remaining.
Yeah that was when top players stayed 3 or 4 years. Now most of the first rounders are freshmen an sophomores.
Yes it was and at that “old age”, they went on to be some of the greatest NBA players of all time. And it could be argued that their age and experience made them more NBA ready.
The conversation is about whether or not being old in college is good for a players NBA draft status not whether it's good for being a NBA player. Most modern evidence says that it will hurt your draft stock, which, if you want to go down that road, also has some impact on what type of player you become (ie, higher picks usually get more chances).
I realize it’s a new day and what worked then no longer applies. I was simply adding a few old-school names to another member’s comment. Reminiscing, if you will, of a time when the NBA still mattered to me. I’m interested in what he brings to the Tigers, not the NBA.
Same here.
