Bye, bye Gary Owens building. Interesting development for sure.

Sad. Spent pretty much my entire time at EMU there, other than a couple classes on campus and at a satellite location. I’m probably out of the loop, but are they moving the COB to campus?

Ypsi is a hot business market right now. I'm sure something good will go in there. And that parking structure will be gold.

Saw that. Lots of memories of classes in there. But it'll probably be nice for students to be on main campus

Yeah, and a consolidation as the university gets a little smaller.

What was in Boone before?

Anyone know the price of the building? I wonder if it will turn into apartments.

I believe it was mostly administrative, with a few classes in the lower level. At least it was when I graduated in 2014.

The email I got from the Dean did not reveal an buyer or price. Pure speculation only but I would suspect a corporation relocation of some type. I just can't see a developer buying and converting the building to residential in our current economic environment. If I'm a bank I would not touch that loan with a ten foot pole at present.

Nice for the City. That property goes back on the tax rolls.

Yes. My guess is that the admin stuff will get consolidated into Pierce Hall. Owens wasn't a well-built building and the location was not popular with many students (parents). Once a mother of one of our lineman complained about how scared she was that her son went to class in downtown Ypsi. She was from Chicago!

The vision was that the COB would ignite a revitalization of the area. That plainly did not happen.

When was the COB built? Was that area more lively back then with the Spaghetti Bender, etc.?

What WSU and the Ilitches did was to place their school of business next to Little Caesars Arena ensuring that it was in an area with a future.

I've never found much in downtown Ypsi to attract people. Folks just go to Depot Town, instead. Right?

The COB has been housed in Ford Hall (1966), Pray-Harrold (1969) and its current location Owen Building ( 1991).

Depot Town is very popular and downtown is starting to get that way. Places like Bobcat Bonnie's, Red Rock, etc seem to be doing well. Parking is a problem in both areas, that's why I said the Owen parking structure is prime.

Ever been to the B.O.B. in Grand Rapids? Multiple bars, restaurants, and entertainment in one building. Developing Owen into something like that is intriguing. Of course, office space and/or residential space is a possiblility to but wouldn't be as much fun for the rest of us.

All I can say is, "good luck." As we all know, the timing for big projects of any type, esp. real estate, is not good.
