A's pitching coach Scott Emerson said he's heard the possibility of A's having their alternate site in Stockton and playing games against Giants Minor Leaguers in Sacramento until Triple-A season starts up. Nothing official at this point.

Even with the one month delay I know the Dodgers will have some interesting choices to make. Last year's alternate site was USC, just across downtown from Chavez Ravine. This year it'll be in Rancho Cucamonga (1-2 hr drive depending on traffic) or Spring Training site in AZ (1.5 hr flight, plus airport waits and drives to/from stadiums). All of that is probably better than Oklahoma City but making sure the right players are in the right spots to get quality work in AND be ready to travel to LA will not be straightforward.

Rancho Cucamonga is reasonably convenient to LA. Comparable to Stockton/Oakland and Sacramento/SF.

Heh - it's actually much closer (48 miles compared to 70 or 90) but the drive is about the same. Yes, even in a pandemic. But you're right - it's close enough to make it an easy call up.

not all teams are using their AAA as Alt site. I know the Nats are using Fredericksburg for the Alt site(about 50 miles away) instead of Rochester.

The Mariners are using their MLB facilities in Seattle as their alternate site, partly because T-Mobile Field has a retractable roof: https://www.mlb.com/news/mariners-altern...obile-park . They might also be the only team that has to have their alternates train exclusively intrasquad, because of distance.

With all the rule tinkering, it's kind of surprising that they're not trying anything to reduce the number of strikeouts. Why not experiment with a smaller strike zone?

well I think the one with the robo umps will be a smaller strike zone. And the one that will be really interesting to watch is AA with the shift rules obviously.

Electronic balls and strikes could theoretically be used someday to shrink the strike zone, but they are not doing that in the low-A experiment this year.

The anti-shift rule "experiment" is not much of an experiment, is it? Manfred will implement it in MLB as soon as next year unless its use in AA provokes a tsunami of outrage.
