He's looking the guy he's guarding in the face. I don't see anyone ever looking at the number or belt buckle when guarding, like I was taught when I was 8. Even great defenders like Baugh and Lomax. Was I taught wrong?

I was taught the same as you. It seems all the fundamentals that we were taught in all sports seem to be obsolete . It drives me crazy when players block the ball out of bounds instead of in bounds ---or in football when a player fair catches inside the 10 or even 5 yard lines ---how stupid those seem to me.

The fair catch thing drives me crazy, as a former return guy. It's dumb and poor coaching.

I was taught to look at the belt buckle too. But there are always exceptions, and times when the eyes move. I wouldn't read too much into one snapshot.

RE: Jose Perez
People teach kids to watch the belt buckle because younger players tend to watch the ball.

If your man is not in an attacking posture as the picture illustrates it makes much more sense to watch his eyes to see where he is tying to go with the ball.

Ha. I never tell people to watch the ball ... I always look my opponent in the eye.

I'm an engineer so I don't know what I'm talking about, but 13 schollys would net 5 bigs (4/5 spots) and 8 others (1-3 spots). Drilling down a little on the 1-3 spots, individuals could play 1/2, 2/3, or 1/2/3, etc. So you'd have to look at that, but following my logic if we have 2 open schollys we'd optimally get a 1-3 guy and a 4/5 guy to fill them.

Memphis connections on his list: Iowa State's HC (area not UofM), GT HC, Memphis itself all jump out.

Tyler should have understood that any top 100 program will have him coming off the bench.

I returned Punts for 3 years. Coach didn’t believe in the fair catch. You didn’t field a punt inside the 15.
