Sage Tolentino, a 7-foot center at Hamilton High School, announced Monday via Twitter that he's decided to reopen his recruitment and keep his options open.

The Class of 2022 big man announced his commitment last October to the Auburn Tigers.

The Cincinnati Bearcats were among schools expressing interest in Tolentino before he committed to Bruce Pearl's team, along with Kentucky, Kansas and Hawaii.

Tolentino moved to Hamilton from the Maryknoll School in Honolulu, where he led the Spartans to a state championship in Hawaii by averaging 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 blocks as a sophomore.

Anyone have any insight on this regarding UC? Is he re-opening because of Wes Miller or is UC just among a group of regional schools on his visit list at this point in time?

Not sure but he would be a terrific start to the 2022 class. He is a 4-star and the 4th best-rated player in Ohio right now. Cincy is the only Ohio school listed in his interests on 247 FWIW. Will definitely be tracking this one over the coming months.

Tolentino just announced he will be joining the Bearcats in 2022 on Mo's show. Great news!

In before nachoman complains that he isn't a consensus top 100 recruit and also held an offer from Tennessee State.

he's a less refined Ody Oguama. think sophomore Justin Jackson. Plaintiff #1 recruited Mo, but he ended up at a MAC school

SF listed at 6-6 195 and ranked 120 by 247 and 109 by their composite ranking. "In addition to Boston College, Butler, Cincinnati, Northwestern and South Carolina, Reed holds offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, George Mason, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Iona, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M."

Sounds like NC St. may be in the lead right now.

Thanks to the new NIL rules UC is probably going to be finding themselves on the short end of every battle with big money schools.

I don't get this argument...the schools don't pay the players. I wouldn't call Memphis a "big money school" and they're pulling guys left and right.

The boosters pay the players. Now that it’s all legal it’s much easier. Listen to Chad on the Pardon The Pun podcast in the last half hour. UC is way behind the eight ball right now. We don’t have the deep pocket companies that can pay $50k for some kid to be a car dealer spokesman. This is why FedEx is getting guys to Memphis now. It’s become way too easy to buy a kid.

Exactly...what I'm saying is that it has nothing to do with the schools themselves, and everything to do with Random Millionaire A deciding to waste money on getting a player or two. Hell, friggin UTEP could become a power if there some random West Texan who feel like paying kids. Has nothing to do with schools and everything to do with random alumni/fans.

RE: BB Class of 2022
My guess is UTEP doesn’t have a donor that invested in athletics. My point was that the big money schools are the ones that typically have a great deal of wealthy boosters as well. If Memphis cared about football they may be in a different situation. They’ve been paying basketball players for decades. Now that it’s legal Memphis will probably outdo UK.

There are eight Fortune 500 companies within the greater Cincinnati area. Can't we get one or two of these to be invested in UC enough to start buying some players for us.
