RE: 2021 Football Recruiting
Puts a smile on my face seeing JMU football news for Greg to write about.
Always a great recruiting tool when former FBS guys who transferred to JMU see guys from their previous school in similar situations.
Hoping that Polk can bring some Penn State guys who are looking for a change over.

Good point, but Polk’s long gone, if they didn’t already come over from Penn State I’d be surprised to see them come now.

He's a big ole boy! 6'7 and 305 lbs, former 3 star from Western PA. Also comes with 2 years of eligibility. Seems like a great add!
Dude is a min-Mountain from GOT.
Hope he’s ruled eligible for the Spring. He’ll make (potentially) a great replacement for the DL who transferred to UVA.

Speaking of Adeeb-he is listed as the 2nd team DE (on a 3-4 defense). Amos is listed as their 2nd team free safety. Amos not listed among UVA's 3 deep punt returners.

I'm excited about this pickup.
Me, too! He is going to dominate in the CAA and JMU is going to propel him to the next level.

I know it was a calculated risk and maybe they both build upward the top of the depth chart but if they don’t they would have been better off staying at JMU and playing in spring as feature players for a team that will likely go deep into the FCS playoffs. I don’t think 2nd on the depth chart guys at UVA get drafted by the NFL - many of their first team guys don’t even get drafted.

If Amos keeps making plays like he did for Virginia this weekend he'll be in good shape with respect to the NFL.

Yeah, I certainly hope they're not letting people tweeting at them influence recruiting. I'm not saying that's the case.
Our recruiting coordinator should give them an initial glance and then decide whether to dig deeper from there. They're just hoping to get someone on the staff to even spend 30 to 60 seconds watching their HUDL tape.

RE: 2021 Football Recruiting
Amos and Atariwa probably realized there's no guarantee of the NFL regardless of where they are, but their odds are statistically higher at a P5 where they're even playing at all. It's possible that increased scout looks by being in the P5 plus any fall tape leading into the draft is a better chance of even an UDFA offer than a spring JMU season would've yielded.
If we thought last year's FCS draft drought due to the lack of workouts from CoVID lockdowns was bad, just wait for this year. I doubt many scouts are going to choose to take a chance on FCS players who aren't even immediately available to play/practice in the spring.
Amos and Atariwa decided it was worth the risk. I consider this to be a one off (hopefully) situation only to 2020.

Amos certainly did not hurt his draft status Saturday. With the injury to UVA's other Safety he could play a huge roll this year. See how he does versus Clemson this week. Atariwa did not appear to help himself. He seems to be top backup for their 2 interior DL positions. Each time he came in, he appears to play well for a couple plays, and then slow down/weaken fairly quickly. He was eating a bunch of double teams.

Honestly as a second teamer his job is to eat double teams and help spell the starter.

Not surprised as these kids lock in commitments until something they perceive as better comes along. Not worried either as he was 1 of 2 TEs in the class and potentially looking at being bumped to DE.
