The conference Champions from the P5 automatically. The Independents will have 1 guaranteed spot as long as they meet certain criteria amongst the polls and win and loses. The G5 schools will be competing fo 4 guaranteed spots as long as they finish within the top25, and if not then the spot will be addd to a at large selection. Then the final 6 schools will be picked via a BCS type selection not just due to the fact they finished within the top25.

This will never come about, but if enough money is lost due to this virus we could see a totally revamping of the college sports as we know it. I think the model needs to 8 schoo,s, but 16 is doable. Like I said we might see a total revamping of scheduling and how seasons are played out etc once football comes back this year if it does.

The next increase will not be beyond 8. But they might later on.

How the current situation impacts college athletics could have a big impact.

I think the at-large spots are the "escape clause" for Independents, just like independents (or non auto-bid conferences) in other NCAA sports.

Indeed, I have seen a lot more presumptions of complaints from Independents about that than actual complaints from supporters of Independents about that.

If we go passed 8 teams in the playoffs I would prefer a merger of FBS and FCS. Go to 24 and give 20 conferences a Auto bid with the top 8 getting a bye. Bowl games can be played Tuesday through Friday.. I would still have D1 scholarships at 85 but state minimum requirement for a playoff berth is 65. With the additional FCS schools I would think the bowl games stay at 40 if not possibly expand.
