I agree that Matt can be a much better player than he is with proper coaching. His scoring will come down, but his shooting percentages will go up and the team will be much better.

FWIW in response to Darius Banks tweet about transferring to UTC Matt Lewis said that he is going to miss having Banks playing by his side. Seems to indicate that Lewis will return to JMU but I guess you never know.

I think he will, isn't his girlfriend on the women's team? He can break some records and a monster senior year here would help him get noticed.

Well I guess really all that means is he won't be going to UTC lol... But yeah, I think if Matt was leaving he'd probably already be in the transfer portal at this point.

Agree. Hope Matt will stay. We need him.

This was part of the chemistry issue we saw with this team last season. Oppenheimer installs a new offense then Lou bails on new offense just prior to the conference schedule. Team goes onto the tank because you have coaches not on the same page. Some players are listening to Lou and some to Josh.

I can promise you that basketball players only care about themselves and playing basketball. Times have changed. Academics and the school are way down the priority list for the guys who are starters. They are focused on making a living playing basketball and whatever/wherever can get them to the highest level of professional play. They don’t look at JMU the way we fans do.

Matt is going to put Matt first. Do I think he has an inflated view of his skills? Yes. Is that a bad thing? No. Confidence in oneself is the best attribute an athlete can have in my opinion. The world is full of good athletes who deep down don’t truly believe in their abilities and thus don’t ever reach their full potential. Matt’s head is actually in the right place for Matt. It just means that JMU basketball is not his highest priority.

Put it in another thread, but Oppenheimer is back in the NBA with the Bucks as an assistant.

Would like to hear from him on his thoughts about last season under Rowe

I thought I saw a recent Oppenheimer podcast with Dave Thomas on the Daily Sports Feed at ESPN H as well.

Oh yeh, I remember listening to that. I mean a real unfiltered review of last season. If I recall, he stuck to coach speak in that podcast.

I know he, along with all other coaches would rarely if ever speak ill of another.

Grant Riller was taken late second round by Charlotte. Nathan Knight signed a two-way deal with Atlanta, as did Nate Darling with Charlotte. Looks like 6 CAA guys to the NBA the last two seasons. JJ Barea and Kent Bazemore are still in the league, I believe, gives you 8 from the league. That could change certainly before rosters are nailed down next month.

RE: Matt Lewis declares for NBA Draft but can still return to JMU:
Dukes84, you follow this much closer than most. Who do you see being NBA material in this year’s CAA senior class? I don’t see any, but could have missed a transfer coming in somewhere.
Seems like the CAA will be down again this year and they won’t have any NBA talent on the floor. The last couple of years at least you could say there were NBA players, even if their teams weren’t complete.

I know Lewis threw his name in the hat for the NBA draft, but he has to improve significantly in his final year to be considered for the NBA. Maybe coach By can rein him in and get a much more controlled and efficient offensive player than we have seen so far. He had his best year yet as a Junior which you would expect, but still only shot 41%.

This projects to be another bingo hopper year in the CAA. Throw all 10 teams in there, spin it around on a double round robin, and see what pops out.

Maybe some of the underclassmen in the CAA make a quantum jump and then are poised to get their shot at the NBA 2 or 3 years from now when they are seniors.
Is there anyone on your radar?

Funny you should ask that Hart...I was thinking the other day that I couldn't think of one player currently in the league as a possible NBA prospect. If I had to pick one, I'd say that Elon freshman that underwent shoulder surgery. Have never seen him play, though (he's a 4 star).
