G5 conferences submit request to NCAA for cuts to programs
https://www.bgdailynews.com/sports/wku/s...14ff8.html

Conference USA is among 5 conferences that have submitted a waiver request to the NCAA asking for relief on a number of requirements needed to maintain D1 status. Among the things on the table are to reduce the minimum number of required team programs from 16 to 14, or potentially as few as 12, a change in football scheduling for 2020, a reduction in the minimum standard of games played per sport, an adjustment in cost of attendance and scholarships requirements.

Thanks for the news, FBO.

One thing that puzzles me is the request to cut the number of programs from 16 to 14 for up to 4 years.

So we dismantle a couple of teams for 4 years, and then the 'temporary" reductions lapse. Then we scramble to start those teams again (or start others) from scratch?

What happens if leagues decide as Aresco said in the Pete Thamel article that leagues may essentially get rid of their league championships and even sport sponsorship for non revenue sports?

Could we see the likes of Rice, Houston, Louisiana Lafayette, Tulane, Sam Houston and Lamar in a baseball league together? Maybe competing in sports like track and field in order to have a conference championship?

I've already written about this 4-5x times. Other Ad's getting crushed. Could be a great time to --- actually beef up as state'u funding gets cut bring in more talent. We have roughly the same number of kids as undergrads with 2x the endowment even after this collapse. I'm sure Rice will let it pass but oh well...

I agree - it could help us quite a bit even though I'm sure Rice's endowment has taken a financial hit the past few months as well. All in all though, Rice is better prepared to weather this educational storm better than just about any school in the country.

Wow, DII hit very hard.

St. Edward's goes from 17 to 11 sponsored sports: 4 men (baseball, basketball, cross country and track & field), 6 women (basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, volleyball and track & field) and 1 co-ed (E-sports).
