Well, an 8-team playoff could mean as many as 16 games, possibly.
But how many teams are playing those extra games. Lets estimate
12 games total
52 teams will not go to a bowl
13 games total
58 teams will go to a bowl but not go to a CCG
14 games total
16 teams will play in a CCG, play in a bowl, but won't make it to 2nd round of playoffs.
15 games total
2 teams will make it to semi-finals but not the NCG
16 games total
2 teams will make it to the NCG.
That works out to an average of 13 games per team per season.
What's my point, I am not sure. I just think that it is worth noting that in a 8-team playoff, only 4 teams will be playing more than 14 games a season, and that's only if all 4 teams go to a CCG.
