Completely lost in that article is the impact on the players themselves, who are already expected to risk personal harm competing in as many as 15 contests per season where once it was only 12, including bowl.

Well, an 8-team playoff could mean as many as 16 games, possibly.

But how many teams are playing those extra games. Lets estimate

12 games total
52 teams will not go to a bowl

13 games total
58 teams will go to a bowl but not go to a CCG

14 games total
16 teams will play in a CCG, play in a bowl, but won't make it to 2nd round of playoffs.

15 games total
2 teams will make it to semi-finals but not the NCG

16 games total
2 teams will make it to the NCG.

That works out to an average of 13 games per team per season.

What's my point, I am not sure. I just think that it is worth noting that in a 8-team playoff, only 4 teams will be playing more than 14 games a season, and that's only if all 4 teams go to a CCG.

I think the analyst in the article is vastly over-valuing the potential QF games. This isn't the NFL, there are diminishing returns with more games.

I’m tired of the “players risking personal harm” narrative. Playing football is literally why these kids are on campus. It’s their job—and they are receiving an expensive education at little or no cost at the expense of the taxpayer.

I’d love to be able to cry to my employer that coming to work caused me to risk personal harm and I shouldn’t have to exert more than the barest of minimums.

I’ll also point out that every year in most states, high schools play 16 games already. 1 preseason game + 10 regular season games + 5 playoff games (32 team tournament).

Are we really counting the FCS game the four most elite teams play as a big, bad, tough game for the poor little future NFL'ers?

And maybe the best timing to expand the CFP is when the NFL goes to a 14 team playoff. By the way, it sure puts it in perspective when you think 44% of NFL teams will make the playoff but only 3% of NCAAF teams make the playoff.

D1 FCS championship teams routinely play 15 games and sometimes 16. I think NDSU went 16-0 last year. D2 and D3 champs play 14 games I believe.

Plus they don't have charter planes for every game, a trainer for every player, a tutor for every player, state of the art ice baths, whirlpools, etc..... and access to the best surgeons in the country.
