Another post I totally agree with... Well said.

If only endowments had anything to do with athletics. I can't believe Ivy League schools aren't dominating the SEC.

RE: Watch Out for Rice University
This post is for our UH brothers. UH has won 31 to 11 head to head matchups with Rice. In addition it has a .543 vs a .433 all time record, and 22 conference championships vs 8 for Rice. However Rice has more all time wins with 475 vs 445 for UH, and a bowl winning percentage of .583 vs .426 for UH. UH has the advantage, but the two remain competitive. They have been in the same conference in the SWC and C-USA.

While endowment funds are largely restricted and not able to be used for athletics, they are nevertheless a good proxy for estimating the financial resources of universities, especially private schools.

As to the Ivy League, you are attributing their level of competition to their financial resources not being meaningful, when, in fact, they have made a conscious decision not to complete at a high level. If the Ivy League came out tomorrow and announced they would offer scholarships in all sports, move to FBS, and invest heavily in athletics, they would be competitive quickly.

SMU shows what a school can do if it chooses to compete and brings financial resources to bear. If Rice had SMU’s commitment, they would be the clear choice in my mind. But Rice seems content to be in FBS as only a recruiting tool for students.

Academics great. Baseball great. Endowment great. Stadium size 40k+ with option to expand by putting seats back in the end zones great. Likely choice to join the AAC not so great. 04-jawdrop 05-stirthepot Navy would definitely vote for them though. 04-cheers Memphis could move to the east and have a great Midwest rivalry with Cinn then. 02-13-banana 02-13-banana COGS COGS 07-coffee3

I also totally agree. They bring NOTHING to the table that would grow this conference.

I totally disagree. Rice may not be the best choice. But they bring a lot to the table. See panite's post. They bring all of that and more.

From what I read on the subject, the stadium has been remodeled. The end zone seats were torn out and the wooden seats have been replaced with aluminum seats. The article also stated the further projects involving the stadium are in progress but did not list them. So I wouldn't classify the stadium as "old and creaky". You might say its refurbished and updated, and brought into the modern day era. 04-cheers

From personal experience, it is a really nice stadium.

RE: Watch Out for Rice University
I'd vote for Rice, even if it means making the AAC more Texas-centric. Superb academics, and I'm old enough to remember Rice's 1954 Cotton Bowl rout (28-6) of Alabama, the one where a distraught Alabama player came off the bench to tackle Rice's Dicky Moegle on his way to yet another Rice TD. What's not to like about that?
