As of 24 hours ago if the stadium is not ready they will be playing in either San Diego, Phoenix, or Salt Lake City.

The NBA forced out the Clippers ownership...

Mark Davis is not the issue for the Raiders. He inherited the team from his Dad. He just needs to get good football people running the organization and I think he has accomplished that. Mark Davis got a sweetheart deal from Las Vegas that provided $750 million in public funding, the most ever committed to any U.S. stadium project. He didn’t even have to surrender any ownership stake in the Raiders for more funding capital, since his only source of wealth is the Raiders.

There was a time, when I was first introduced to the NFL, when the Raiders were arguably the best-run franchise in the league, and Al Davis was the smartest owner. This was for a long time, from around the late 1960s to around 1990. And i admit that as someone who has disliked the Raiders for going on 50 years now.

But the last 20 or so years of his life, Davis slipped badly. His bitterness, which for so long was the inner fire that motivated him to be the best, consumed him, and he started making dumb decisions. Really dumb decisions that left the Raiders in a competitive shambles, even as the money rolled in as it does to all NFL owners.

Sadly, Mark seems to have inherited only the talents of this late-life inept Al, not the brilliant, arguably genius, talent of the pre- 1990s Al Davis. I say "sadly" because for better or worse, the Raiders are one of the flagship franchises, and like the Cowboys, who I also 'hate', the league is just more interesting when they are good.

I agree that the league is more interesting when the Raiders are good, but I am a lifelong Raiders fan, so I am a little biased. Al was brilliant and stubborn and the latter trait made it difficult to win in the NFL as the other teams caught up. He still had his moments. He was AFL Coach of the Year in 1963. Sporting News Executive of the Year in 1976. In 2002, he was chosen by PFWA as the Executive of the Year, the year the Raiders went back to the super bowl. As he got older, he was making some horrendous personnel decisions and he was difficult to work for. Al was the Owner, the General Manager, the Director of Player Personnel, the Assistant defensive coordinator. He was in love with Size/Speed athletes. The joke used to be that the Raiders looked really good coming off the bus.

He would give his coach players that they didn't want and then it was their job to coach them up. The best example of that was Jamarcus Russell. You could see that bust coming from a mile away. Mark is not a football guy and he knows it. If the team succeeds, it will be because Mark hired Gruden who brought in Mayock.

As a Raiders season ticket holder from 2007-13 before I finally gave up, gotta still remember two things...
1. How Al grabbed control of the team from Wayne Valley, while legally OK, was as unethical as you can get.
2. Remember, Mark does not own the team just yet. His mother still does. Mark will still have to deal with the Estate Tax when Miss carol passes away.

As a Raiders season ticket holder from 1982-1989, who usually gets to at least one game a season these days, I am aware that Mark and his Mom are the majority owners (47%). Mark is the managing general partner of the team. I am sure the estate planners will put Mark in a good position when the time comes.

Raiders won't be anything but 2nd place for the next 15 years or until Mahomes hangs them ups. Glorious times.

Raiders to play 2020 games at UTEP?
I just wanted to chime in here as a Broncos fan to say that I’ve always hated the Raiders. One of the games that most pi$$ed me off when it happened was the Ken Stabler Fumble Forward on Fourth Down Fiasco. The Raiders got away with another one!!!

Ironically it turned out that Raiders win over San Diego favored my team in the end. Raiders and Chargers both ended 9-7 and the Broncos clinched the division at 10-6. If the Raiders hadn’t “stolen” that one from the Chargers, we wouldn’t have won the division!
