This is a great time-waster at the RIGHT time! The second question only allows JMU fans to say their happy with CAA or their happy with FCS. I chose the NMSU/Liberty only option about best of CUSA/SBC.

Not quite. The second question has a JMU-only-answer. You can still choose other answers if they're appropriate for you. Though I can see how if you want to move up that option makes the mostest sense for JMU. I'll rename that vote to NMSU/Liberty/JMU only, since it does make sense for you too.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah it was just confusing from the pro-FBS perspective.

And I’m still stuck on listing 1-9 in order of preference. Once we get past ODU/App/Marshall, it gets less obvious from a JMU perspective. I’m essentially choosing the schools I think those three want the most.

Here was my top 9 for a 10 team league:
App St
Georgia Southern
ODU
Coastal Carolina
Marshall
Charlotte
Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee
Liberty

I'd rather have 12 teams and add:
Georgia State
Troy

10 is the magic number to stage a FB title game. So the question becomes, "Would Georgia State and Troy lead to more revenue than they would suck down if added thereafter?"

The answer is probably no, regardless of who the final 2 are that get you to 12. The Big 12 and AAC have run the numbers and concluded it ends in a bigger payday to be as small as possible while still getting a FB title game. In fact, if the playoff expands to 8 the most advantageous format for a G5 would be a 10 team conference title game. It assures your #1 plays your #2 which doesn't necessarily happen in title games with divisions. Given that it seems likely that expansion to an 8 team playoff will come with a highest ranked G5 autobid, you very seriously want to consider 10 teams not only for your revenue but your FB playoff chances.

For my 10, I swapped out your bottom 3 for the 2 F_U’s and G-State. The Florida schools to keep Marshall happy because they are in my top 3 for JMU. That left only one slot. I’m out on Liberty due to leadership. Would rather have WKU & Middle, but with only one slot, went with G-State because of the geography.

RE: Conference Descrambler
rivalries are the lifeblood of college athletics. it's what made the peak CAA years so great and helped it grow. Almost every game was good to heated rivalry.

without them, you get CUSA.

my regional conference I'd like to see. Based on ceiling and growth potential, and also to help foster rivalries that fans will actually care about and draw "heat" (to coin a wrestling phrase). not some made up concocted rivalry that isn't real.

JMU
ODU
Charlotte
App State
Marshall
Ohio

Western Ky
Middle Tenn St
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
FIU
FAU

i'd prefer to have schools west of here such as La Tech, ULL, UAB, South Alabama or Arkansas State...but think that would be too hard to cobble together, and it would be too spread out, heading towards falling into the current CUSA trap

RE: Conference Descrambler
Well done Swagger. I was just thinking about a wish list the other day.

Definites (other than us):
App St.
Georgia Southern
ODU
Marshall
Charlotte

Ok with:
Coastal
WKU
MTSU
UAB
That would give us about as tight a footprint as realistically possible. It'd also be a good mix of small/larger markets.

Only if it was a dealbreaker:
So. Ala
FIU
FAU
So Miss
Ga St. (I would be ok with them if GSU was not in the picture)
Troy St
Ark St
Liberty (I would want them if ODU was not in the picture)
Any Louisiana school
Any Texas school
Reasons are, they just are too far for the bang you'd get for the buck.
(the Tex and LA moratorium would be waived, of course, for an AAC invite)

I would also like to have Delaware included in the discussions, but have no idea if they'd be interested. They do have $$ up there.

I was on the fence with Liberty but from a geo perspective they make sense and we would hate them as much if not more than ODU so it would be a good rival.

I don't think that applies to us. It doesn't really matter if you split what the SB & CUSA get in media dollars 10 ways or 16 ways, the difference isn't worth worrying about. We need to create rivalries and make money at the gates. ONce the rivalries are made maybe the media money will follow.

RE: Conference Descrambler
very cool, thanks for putting this together.

i think you've gotta add some targets from MAC - they have 12, your poll has 28 (not counting NMSU)

If you start with 30...would be interesting to see three 10-team conferences emerge, along with the remaining MAC of 10 as a fourth.

Another option is 1 from the MAC and Uconn...but that gets real dicey for MAC at 11

i thought we were living in FANTASTY WORLD...no?

nevertheless...if you keep NMSU and add Uconn - a nice round number of 30 to start the re-org

JMU
ODU
APP
MARSHALL
WKY
MTENN
GA SOUTH
UAB
TROY
UNCC

Now that is a conference with regional interests and very good rivalries for all.

Screw the Florida schools. They have no fan interest. Coastal is small time. They don’t belong in FBS and last I looked, a tiny basketball arena. Liberty has too much money and Farewell does whatever he wants. Not a good conference partner. The rest are too far away to care about. Like S. Miss. but would have to drop an Alabama school to grab them. Geographically they fit better with La. and Texas schools than VA and NC anyway.

Other than those who voted JMU the #1 team they'd like to see in a reorganized conference, it doesn't look like we're garnering any support elsewhere. Spots 2-9 do not even list us.

So we have 24%-all 1st choice votes and nothing else. Wonder what % of voters were JMU fans? ODU on the other hand, had 27% as the 1st choice but had a grand total of 89% of voters wanting them somewhere in their Top 10 choices.
