Besides, if Marshall fans don't like the idea of one weekday night home game in the Sun Belt, imagine 2-3 of them in the MAC in late October/early November!

Everyone recruits the south. Hell Toledo hired a HS Football coach from Tampa just to recruit more in Florida.

I don't know how much more you can make a school feel welcome by giving them the first four MAC Championship games in Huntington even if they did not have the best record. Their first "road" MAC Championship game they choked.

Plus the hospitality in Huntington leaves a lot to be desired.

After seeing many many many fans write about their experience at a Marshall game I can safely say your opinion is a miniscule minority.

I've got an ex-gf who would say otherwise, after getting hit in the head with a battery while attending a MAC Championship game at Marshall.

RE: Marshall heading back to the MAC? Don't shoot the messenger..
Note that if two schools dropped out of CUSA (dropping football altogether or dropping to FCS) ... then CUSA would have 12 members and be able to play each other more often.

Talking about a conference "collapsing" that at present has arguable too many schools is just outlandish.

And those remaining their own conference as well? Something along the lines of the airport meeting? If that's possible along east/west lines I'm all for it.

No, there is no such rule. There used to be, it got squashed in favor of the current rule where the conference has to have been running a competition for eight years before it can get an autobid.

Do an airport meeting, lose the Tourney autobid for eight years.

To be fair, some would argue that this is technically correct ... in the sense that Western Kentucky fits the midwest profile every bit as badly as Marshall does ... so their (lack of) fit is very much like Marshall's (lack of) fit.

I hate that happened. But it doesn't change the fact it's a very small minority experience.

I've lost count of the number of times I've read great experiences on message boards or seen letters to the editor in the Herald-Dispatch of visiting fans raving about their time here.

Something like what your ex experienced even once is too much. I know it's hard to seperate one personal experience from the majority experience though.

It doesn’t matter how much geographic sense Marshall to the MAC makes, they think of themselves as southern so that’s who they are going to affiliate with.

I assume this thread got started because the OP saw on herdfans.com a poster say he's heard from within the Marshall Administration that going back to the MAC is a strong possibility.

They are not being served being in a league with Texas and Louisiana schools. They would rather be in a league with schools like former SoCon rivals (and now successful G5 programs) App State an Ga. Southern.

I could see Marshall fighting for Southern Miss to be included in an eastern breakaway. That may or may not work out.

Oh, they absolutely did. Theise were the Randy Moss/Pennington and later Leftwich years when they finished ranked multiple times. They would still rather be in a southern oriented league.

“I have read this board for years, and have never known for this particular poster to throw out bogus rumors. Whether it comes to pass or not remains to be seen, but I’ll take him at his word.”

“I know "The Right Stuff" personally. I also know that he is not one to start or spread rumors unless he has some good, sound information. If he said it is coming from MU administration, then I believe him!”

The poster is very credible, which is why there was such a large response. That doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing though. They never elaborated any further on how the MAC would have room for Marshall or if the MACs interest was mutual. They just stated that it was a strong possibility.

I think most Marshall fans would welcome a move back at this point. Far easier travel and the MAC actually plays football games on tv instead of Facebook.

Judging by OP’s subsequent posts, it sounds like this is a move accelerated by COVID-19, calling the move “for survival”. Coronavirus is impacting realignment.

C-USA will not collapse. There are enough solvent programs to keep it going.
The SEC has “It Just Means More”. The MWC has “At the Peak”. The Sun Belt has “Together We Rise”. Hell, even the Aack! has the silly “#P6” thing.

But what slogan does Conference USA have? I think SSJ may have stumbled on a marketing goldmine, here.

C-USA: “We’re Not Going to Collapse!”
C-USA: “Solvent Programs!” or “Keep It Going!”

I like my personal catch phrase for North Texas, "The Show Goes On!" 07-coffee3

Way to keep your chin up after the SMU beating. SMU = Dallas.

But, as far as college football goes, North Texas has stronger fan support. If you were down here you would know these things.
