top dozen states in cases
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nco...in-us.html

So I don't have to look when I want to compare prior numbers:
Number of cases as of April 6-330,891 nationally
1. New York 119,435
2. New Jersey 37,505
3. Michigan 15,718
4. California 13,438
5. Louisiana 13,010
6. Massachusetts 12,500
7. Florida 11,961
8. Pennsylvania 11,510
9. Illinois 11,256
10. Washington 6,973
11. Texas 6,812
12. Georgia 6,752
Connecticut is the only other state with more than 5,000 cases.

Alaska is #50 with only 185. Wyoming with 200 and North Dakota with 207 are just ahead.

Those last 3 states have practiced social distancing 24/7 for centuries.

The more cases means more testing is being done, isn't that a good thing? Deaths are obviously different.

RE: top dozen states in cases
Death rate is far more important than confirmed cases, which we all know is skewed by how aggressively and successfully a state is testing.

For instance, Kentucky has a low confirmed cases number compared to most, yet our death rate per million is higher than all our neighboring states except Indiana and Illinois...meaning our death rate is higher than WVa, Tenn, Va, MO, and Ohio. Our Governor continuously pats himself on the back that Kentucky is doing far better than our neighbors because of his actions and we have fewer "confirmed" cases. He has a fawning media (he's a Dem) so he's never questioned.

Death rate is skewed as well.

I have pointed out that the first death from the Wuhan virus here in SC was someone who was already receiving hospice care for COPD, and wasn't expected to live through the week. But because they tested positive for the virus they are a virus death, regardless if it was the underlying condition that actually killed them.

Oh, believe me, I agree wholeheartedly that there are some efforts to skew death rates here and there but it's still far better than testing results.

I live in South Jersey, which is not so bad. Yes, high taxes and all, but I came here from Monterey CA area, it’s all relative.

We lived in Williamstown for a spell. Yeah, taxes sucked, but pretty area with lots of open spaces. Loved the produce stands there.

I dated a girl for 2 years when I was doing my undergrad at ECU... she was from Cranford, NJ. So, I had to go up there for a few holidays and vacations. I have nightmares about the NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway.

It was a weird place... nice sidewalk-lined streets... but she would tell me "You see that stop sign? That is where Cranford ends and Westfield starts... we don't like Westfield because it is trashy." But... it's the next block! 01-wingedeagle

Deaths by states hasn't been as easy to find as cases. CDC has that link on cases by state.

Colorado became the 14th state to crack 5,000 cases. Total cases cracked 400,000. Deaths slightly below 13k.

I’ve been here almost 2 years, and I don’t get all the townships and other municipal oddities. I mean there is no unincorporated areas, even if you live in the middle of the pine lands in BFE. And how do you get townships inside of townships. Just odd...and the drivers are the most aggressive of anyplace I have lived.

You left Monterey for Jersey?

That must've been a heckuva job. Or girl. Or both.
