I know (unfortunately) that isn't really an issue for us, but teams only sell half the tickets of capacity. For instance, Ford Field fits 60,000 some I believe, so maybe the Lions only sell 30,000 tickets for every game so people are more spread out?

Rynearson is around 30,000 I believe, so maybe Eastern would only be allowed to sell 10,000-15,000 a game.

Yep. We could spread folks out. For example, sell odd or even number seats only.

Add a free face mask and we'd probably be okay.

The biggest danger isn't fans, I think, but athletes. Athletes running, etc. do a lot of heavy breathing, spitting, etc. all of which is much different than someone sitting passively watching a game from their seats.

I think you're exactly right on that. That is one reason I think baseball could be back this summer since it is a sport you don't really have to be all that close to your opponent. With football and basketball that is a different story...

Yep. NHL isn't really a 'handsy' sport; I would think there is least risk to their athletes. Basketball and dating are very handsy. 03-lmfao Football has players literally face to face.

That said, I still maintain for athletes they be checked every few days for a temp and weekly for the virus.

One more thought about fans:

Football fans tend to be social people. They go to a game with their spouse, children, etc. Is it REALLY necessary to practice extreme social distancing at a game when a group of fans might be people who live in the same house?

As I suggested before, I think there should be sections which do and sections which do not practice social distancing. Let the fans pick the sections they want. This is like the old days when airplane flights had smoking and non-smoking rows.

I like this idea. It's very doable at EMU and other G5 stadiums that normally are far less than full. It's places like UM that won't be able to pull it off.

I'm more pessimistic about 2020 sports than previously.

BTW, universities will be taking a huge hit even if they remain open with virtual classes.

1). Less students will enroll. I would guess the freshman classes will be smaller across the country.

2). Think of the lost revenue from dorms and apts like The Village.

3). I hope colleges have sufficient endowments to weather this pandemic. No way many schools can balance a budget for 2020/21 school year.

BTW, this was to be the BEST EMU home schedule in memory with 3 home game by the 1st week of October.

Sorry ya'll have to deal with your joke of a governor. If it's up to her there certainly won't be any football in Michigan this season.

Can't buy vegetable seeds, can't buy paint at Home Depot. 01-ncaabbs

Take your political BS somewhere else. Like an LV Raiders site, for instance.

Secondly, I can say whatever the hell I want to say on this site. If you don't like it you can ..................

There are many outside of politicians who have stated that the football season could be in jeopardy including the NFL. So lets leave the politicians out of it and focus on what the public health experts say. Next.

If you don't leave here or pay taxes here why does it matter what our governor does? Just curious.

Most of my family still lives there. I was born and raised there. Lots of extended family and friends there as well.

ALL very disturbed by what's happening right now. If you haven't noticed, the majority of people in Michigan are pushing back as well. Yes or No?

American small business owner as well. What happens in Michigan, especially this type of overreach, should matter to all of us.

Yep. Also, you can buy vegetable seeds and any planting products that Home Depot sells. Order it online and they’ll give it to you curbside. All they did was close the garden sections of the store so people would stay away from each other.

The misinformation drives me crazy.

i think social distancing is good but this brings up an interesting point. what if a state with multiple div 1 schools across conferences. michigan, ohio, texas, california - states like that - decides to remain closed but other states are open. lets say ohio closes and michigan opens - what do you do with AT kent state or AT akron?

No “inside knowledge”, but I’m guessing no football or basketball this year.
I want to be very wrong though.
