Ole Miss Baseball Announces Signing Of Alex Presley

May 5, 2003

OXFORD, Miss. - Alex Presley, of Neville High School in Monroe, La., has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball for Ole Miss, head coach Mike Bianco announced Monday.

"We are really excited about Alex Presley joining our program," said Bianco. "He is a tremendous student-athlete. Alex is a great offensive player as well as a defensive player. It's great to sign two young men from Neville High School, who lead the state in home runs this season and are such good people."

Presley, an outfielder/left-handed pitcher, has hit 15 home runs this season. The total ties him with teammate Robert Lane for the most home runs hit in the state of Louisiana this season.

The 5-11 senior has helped lead his team to a 28-6 record and the second round of the state playoffs, where the team is still vying for the state title. A member of the 2002 All-Northeast Louisiana team, Presley was also tabbed as a First-Team All-State Class 4A outfielder in 2002. He was also named as the Most Valuable Player for District II.

Presley is the latest Ole Miss signee to be invited to the Junior Olympic Trials in Joplin, Mo., to play for Team USA. Current Rebels Brian Pettway and Alan Horne are among those invited to the Junior Olympic trials in the past.

Off the field, Presley has achieved success in the classroom to rival those on the field. A member of the National Honor Society with a 3.8 GPA, he was honored at the Neville High School and Ouachita Parish Scholars Banquets and was named to the Louisiana All-State Academic Team for District IV.

Presley, who will be eligible for the 2003-04 academic year, is the first signee for the Rebels in the spring.

As well, you should! 04-bow 04-bow Sounds terrific no matter how many times it is posted.... Again, I think we are really closing the gap in baseball - I'm really excited. I have a son that may be a recruit in the next three years. Maybe in football and baseball. 03-razz 03-razz

No worries, brotha. I'd rather it be posted 2 times, than none at all. 03-wink

Yes, as long as Bianco stays around, I'll be happy with all of these recruits, cuz I know he can get 'em. We're definitely on the verge of getting over that hump and start being on the same level or even better than the LSUs and MSUs. We'll get there. We're very close.

And when we start winning more and more, the stands will begin to fill up more and more. We do great on big alumni weekends, but aren't quite pulling the LSU and MSU crowds consistently. I think we've definitely got things on the upswing. Who knows? We've still got some baseball to play this season and we could still shock a few folks.
