I’m still mad I didn’t go to the Penn St game. I was a senior but didn’t have the road trip crew that I have now.

Surprised no one mentioned the win over Michigan. Walking out of the Big House to basically silence was something I’ll never forget...
You missed a great game against Penn State. What I remember after the game was how gracious the fans were. The 2000 Penn State team was not one of Joe Paterno's best. Penn State had a QB named Rashard Casey from Hoboken NJ. He was suspended at the start of the season because of a fight he had gotten into during the summer. At the last minute Paterno activated Casey but it didn't really help. Casey signed a baseball contract after college. The Toledo team was loaded: Chester, Tavares Bolden, Carl Ford, Antony McCray and Wm. Bratton. One of the best games I ever attended...second was the win at Michigan! Opelt and Lance Moore's brother played great. The missed FG at the end of the game helped!

2) same BGsucks game as listed above we are down big start of the second half and crush them.

3) Championship game versus Marshall Never will forget kicker taking the ball and running it in for a touchdown

Two of the four guys mentioned in Number 1 played in the NBA. Funny, I was there and thought we lost.

In one of the guides I saw a game that I attended as a student. 1963 UT/Bugs at BG. I remember before the game it began to rain. We had a really good running back at the time.... Jim Gray. They used to say: "all the way with Jim Gray". I think Gray had the longest run from scrimmage during this game.....record lasted for awhile. We were in the game for all four quarters but we lost 22-20 in the last couple minutes. Frank X was the coach.

The Battle of Rt - 25. Would that have been TU/Bugs? When was the name changed? How long did it take to get there? Did you have to change horses?
Just what we need now. More of your oft-color posts! I often don't read the crap that you post.

You just did. I don't think anything there is "off-color" unless I'm misunderstanding the term. Nothing was meant derogatory, I simply asked when the name change occurred. 03-wink

Is it odd that the rival, for that matter the not-a-rival haven't gotten much mention?

I would loved to have seen one of the 70s teams in person. Other than a local talent (including Magic Johnson) high school game against the Russians, I never set foot on campus until I was in my 30s. Never saw a game in the Field House. Never saw the streak.

Not that one. There was another one where I think we did lose but that might have been 2 years earlier and I wasn't there we also lost at their place the next season.

2. Bob Conroy steals the ball from Jeff Montgomery and pulls out a UT win with Wienert screaming “The knife is still in the body”! I was in the BG student section at Anderson.

3. Gary DuBose jumps 7’ in a meet in Savage. UT record at the time. I was standing next to the HJ stanchions officiating.

Agree with #2, but it was Pat Haley, not Weinert.

probably should have mentioned I moved to Toledo in 1999, so my fan history is much less than many on this board, but I think that's a pretty good top 3 and likely appear on many top 20-25 all time UT sports history events

I was at that game... English was their top scorer and future NBA player.... Larsen really bottled him up...
Great game !!

Right you are. I, Uh, set that up just to, you know, see if anybody was paying attention. I mean, I KNEW it was Haley. Actually I’m surprised that Wienert never coached BG while I was there. Could have sworn he did.

Seeing the Rockets beat Iowa in the NCAA tournament at Bloomington. The ride home seemed like it took five minutes.

I was at a wedding reception and when I heard the final score I wrestled the mic away from the band’s singer and announced the final. Dead silence. A guy came up and said “Sir, please sit down!” I assumed the news would be met with cheers and much joy. The married couple were both idiots so the UT win was the best thing that happened that day.

1) Beating Michigan in the big house.
2) my first rockets game during the last year of the field house. Sold out, UT win, Williams draining long jumpers.
3) Craig Sutters debut midseason in Eck's 2nd year. Huge buildup for the first high riser in recent memory. Comes off the bench and has 3 monster dunks while the crowd goes nuts.
Sadly, I missed the OSU game and some of the big wins

1) Win at Penn St 24-6 (Game totally dominated by the Rockets, sat in the Toledo section, row 6 I believe near the goal line, hot as hell, fist time I ever paid for a water.)
2) Win at Arkansas 16-12 (Bend but don't break defense paid off that day, Ark moved the ball between the 20s, but were stymied inside the 20. Called for the great coaching decision to give up the safety late, to make Ark go the length of the field for the win, they almost did.)
3) Too many to choose from, FB win at scUM, BB win vs tO$U, FB win vs Pitt, FB win @ BGSU - Chris Hopkins, 42-0 win vs Marshall, MACC Game win vs Marshall, road win at Marshall - Trinity Dawson.

1. Win at Arkansas - Top 20 team, SEC environment, Brad Pasley concert on the golf course after the game.
2. Win at the Big House over Michigan - Toledo dominated, should have won by 20 points.
3. Win over Airforce in the Military Bowl - Awesome defensive stand on PAT trickery at the end of the game. Thank you Jayrone. Eric Page had a great game.

I was speaking specifically of the ARK game, UT was outgained 515 to 318.

That season as a whole was one of the better UT defenses in recent history.
