Still got the stereo and all my cd's, just haven't hooked my stereo up in like 8 years. Just play my bluetooth and work system. I still got tapes too lol. In fact, I think I'm going to play one for for the 1st time in years tomorrow on a boombox I play baseball games on during work lol. Some Who (not to be confused with WHO these days) bootlegs from the 70's I taped from the vinyls I have. Ah, those metal/chrome tapes.

I remember Musiccraft. I spent many years and my parents cash learning guitar, only to forget about it in my 20s.

Since we're stolling down south side memory lane and music, do you recall a Yardbird's records on 63rd (and around Kedzie) in Chicago? I spent some of my hard earned cash as a teen there.

And for the record, I still have a bunch of cassettes in the basement!

I just heard the Germans cancelled October Fest this year...October Fest, jeez.

I, for one, will attempt to keep the tradition alive in my basement and backyard, consuming Ayinger, Bitburger and other brews, doing the chicken dance by myself, and incoherently mumbling what sound like the words to Edelweiss until my 80+ year old German immigrant neighbors plead with me to stop. Can't wait. It's entertainment in the year of covid.

If you can stream it on Zoom, that would be the icing on the cake (or froth on the beer).

Right now the Administration is shitting a brick. How many students will not return in fall. Even though they got more money from state, the state has less money. NIU does not have a billion dollar endowment. The directional schools are in financial trouble. They are playing wait and see before making tough decisions. The state of Illinois has asked federal government for 40 billion dollars to shore up their mismanaged finances. I hope I am wrong but higher education is in serious trouble

I heard a brief interview with the President of Michigan State who is also an epidemiologist IIRC (or something related) and even he sounded uncertain what higher ed and related sports would look like for the near future.

Sure, there's larger existential questions over the long term, but there's day-to-day operational things to be figure out- beyond just the basic course delivery issues- how do you build community online? Deliver student support services? Unlocking those issues seem like the key to survival

NIU has declining enrollment, small endowment, inadequate state funding and high overhead costs. We shall see

No, I'm a tittle further south, east. Hegewisch was my place then Rock Records dtown near work.

BTW, found my Who bootlegs today. But I found another classic. 1988 GNR live at The Ritz i taped of XRT!!! Sounded really good. Tomorrow maybe Pearl Jam off XRT from early 90's!!!

This is exactly the right take. Life will not be "normal" until there is a vaccine or enough of us have been infected AND they can prove that infection equals immunity.

No vaccine but medicine that relieves symptoms effectively for many. Unfortunately I think that's becoming a 1st option too quickly and to some, the only option. If covid-19 was primarily matter blood transfusion, reusing needles and sticking your jimmy in the wrong place, most would be fine.

The vast majority now need no special treatment to releave the symptoms.

I think sports will become the least of their worries. Survival in a changed world will be their biggest challenge. I can see sports dropped at all but the top tier U's and even then following a Div III or club model. The pro sports will transition to developing their own minor leagues (XFL?) as a replacement. I cannot see jamb packed stadiums any time soon.

I am wondering if fall sports will happen this year. Right now hotels and airlines are basically shut down. They could consider what baseball is considering, having regional leagues. NiU, NW, Illionois, Wisconsin, WMU, etc. Something that is a close bus ride to and from.

As far as fall football I think Major League Baseball could be a good test case for the rest of the sports scene assuming baseball gets started sometime this summer. Each sport is different and will have its own particular obstacles to overcome but if baseball gets started and then has Coronavirus problems arise that would probably not bode well for fall sports. Like everyone I’m ready for sports to return it’s been such a big part of my life and I’m sure many of yours as well. Until that day I’ll just keep dreaming and repeating to myself GO HUSKIES!!
