Definitely worth a read, whether you support it being cut or not.

Administration not wasting any time preventing the alumni group and local business leaders from trying to save the program.

Very worthwhile listen for ALL fans of ODU sports! It pulls back the curtain on several aspects of ODU’s situation that contributed to wrestling’s end and ODU’s loss. ODU has lost some points on the issue of integrity, and it remains galling that Wood Selig will not step up and answer for this decision in public. A full press conference, live or virtual, is overdue.

Both Wilder and the host are excellent.

Thank you for sharing.

Great listen, between this and Jason on the PA Power Podcast with former ODU wrestler Tristan Warner gives some really good perspective on the situation. I think Coach Wilder had some good points but I agree with Jason on if we didn't move to FBS the Cox Bill wouldn't have had as big of an impact on us which is what I took away as the biggest impact of the 3 things BW mentioned.

I'm glad they moved to FBS, and I don't think anyone anticipated the Cox bill.

My question for all of the passionate, pissed-off wrestling fans: If, as BW said, people around the athletic program were talking about and were aware of this possibility, how is it that not a single wrestling alum/fan knew about it? Not even an inkling? Or knew and did/said nothing?

How much $ did the pro wrestling people contribute to the program each year? Couldn't have been very much. I think that we, as fans, are going to learn that buying season tickets isn't enough. I see people on here say they don't contribute anymore, then ***** about the programs not being what they'd like them to be/what they think they should be. I don't think that's going to work anymore. And if they drop back, whether football or back to CAA-style hoops, I don't want to go there, though there may be no choice the way things are going.

One quibble (at least) with BW: I don't think coaches should be doubling as fund raisers. They are paid to coach/recruit/run a clean program. Given Wilder's nature, he wanted to get out there, wanted to do all of that spade work, wanted to raise $. It's one reason, I'm sure, he got the job in the first place. Yes, occasional events/fund raisers are fine and part of the job, but to expect coaches to raise their budget money is ridiculous. Do you think the new WBB coach would have come here if she was told, "hey your budget is $2 million, we'll put up $500,000. You get the rest."

I haven't heard the whole interview. I think that between hiring new WBB coach and chairing this committee to cut expenses and try to figure out where the program and the conference (and others) are going, I'll give Selig a pass for not having a press conference for a decision already made. At some point soon, there will have to be a state of the program press conference, and any and all wrestling questions (more like accusations) can be put forth then.

Alum Donald Motley was named the National Wrestling Coaches Association State and Sectional Coach of the Year for 2020. Motley coaches at Oscar Smith, which won its first wrestling state championship this past season.

Motley is a great role model for the young men and women in his program.

RE: ODU Wrestling Done
From what I understand, Selig told Wrestling, M Soccer, and Baseball that one of them would likely be cut. Of the three, it's not hard to figure out which program is the most likely to get axed, IMO. I really wish that Martin reached out to the wrestling community to make the program more financially secure. I'm about to endow a scholarship. Had I known that wrestling was on the cutting block, I would have endowed a wrestling scholarship. Unfortunately, the community didn't know just how dire the situation was, and they didn't support the program until it was too late.
