Just heard ODU wrestling has been cut effective immediately.

This sucks so much on so many levels.

Interested in this outside consultant report...what brought that on...what were the findings?

Sad reality....but Get ready for more at ODU and most every other University ! The University model of 2 months ago will not be able to be sustained. Universities and Athletic Depts. had better rethink their programs because EVERY State will be facing HUGE revenue and budget shortfalls. Oh...and this doesn't take into account the donations to Universities will reduce to a trickle. Time for Universities to consider using their endowments to help people.

Well, it's sad for the people involved in the program. I'm sure that's a tough decision and tough to fire coaches and put the wrestlers in a position where they'd have to transfer to continue competing. But honestly, from a fan perspective I'm fine with it.

It is hitting the wall, money is tight right now. Had to be a very tough decision to make, on top of starting WVB. Is everyone here renewing season tickets, FB, MBB and WBB. I bet the shortfall will be huge. What about enrollment at ODU where most of the revenue comes from, will that be dropping. Sad day to cut a quality program.

Well this sucks. I wonder what the report said about travel expenses by the sports in C-USA. Maybe that will reinforce the need to be in a more regional conference.

Just a quick thought that came to me based on a conversation I had over a year ago: This might be being done to avoid the need to add women's softball for Title IX compliance.

Aren't they supposed to be adding beach volleyball as well, or was that only a potential move? Presuming that if they go through with beach volleyball, then they'd be compliant even with wrestling.

But wrestling often takes the fall, as it were, when Title IX compliance is an issue, so that's certainly still a possibility.

I'm relieved to hear this. More should shutter. Maybe the abysmal Lacrosse program. Sailing? Rowing? Replace them with softball. Would that keep us NCAA compliant?

Sponsoring 19 sports is extemely difficult to sustain at the G5 level. Look at a few of our conference mates and their lower number of sponsored sports.

Just read this. Sons of *******! What the hell made them think this was a good idea?? One of our better sports?

Sad, but probably necessary. A victim of title nine and income inequality between the P5 and the rest as much as the overall economy. College sports is killing itself.

Lacrosse has tons of potential though with our proximity to the north east. I like having it. Sailing makes a lot of sense also considering our history and location. The only sports that make sense To cut are wrestling and men’s swimming. Sucks, but is how it is. Wrestling was in the MAC not CUSA btw.
