RIP Bronco Basketball
It has been a fun ride. A lot of great memories for me. A new direction WAS needed. WMU took the wrong turn.

I was on the "Fire Hawk" train and don't regret that. I had the expectation that WMU AD and Admin would have handled the transition with grace. I thought they would have found someone to bring new life into the Bronco Basketball program. Instead they ripped the heart out of the program and then stabbed the body another 20+ times. Players are transferring out. I'm sure the remaining players don't have much hope for the future. The program is dead.

We will never recover. We will never compete for a MAC Championship again let alone a MAC West Championship.

Hawkins had a lot of great teams, great seasons, and he seems like a great guy. Would love to grab a beer with him and pick his brain about a lot of bronco history and get his opinion of how (poorly) the WMU Athletic Department is ran.

Chill out. What part of 'school said no external hires' after the state went on lockdown isn't being understood here?

These players were gonna transfer no matter who we hired.

Bates is coach. Give the dude a chance. Now's not the time to be throwing $800K a way, especially if the 2020-2021 season is cancelled or shortened severely.

Bates is a two year limited contract coach. What four year kid with any ability jumps on the WMU two year train? Opposing coaches are salivating

This gets my vote for most over the top post on this hoops board. NEVER is a long time. Too long.

The program will recover but it will likely take a few years. I do agree with fastbuicks that opposing coaches are licking their chops at WMU weaknesses. Bates will need to create a miracle to stay around more than 2 years.

#RIP should be the new slogan for Western Michigan's Athletic Program. It's the new #RTB

How ironic the transfer portal will break up this team and yet the next head coach needs to lean on it to build another. Bates has lost two seniors, Johnson/Flowers, Wilkins just had ACL repaired he's likely done for next season. As it is today that is five spots to fill already. Two more portal entries and 50% of roster is gone. Tough ride ahead for WMU Basketball.

The ironic thing is that Bates was purported to be the players' choice...

But I agree. Never is a long time. You'll be back, but not with the current coach/AD.

I think you are being just a tad extreme. They will recover and someday compete for a championship again.

No sh*t. Eventually we will (IF there even is a program in 5 years). That eventually is 10+ a years away.

I will bet they challenge for a championship in less than 10 years.
