I was thinking the same thing the other day. Or we will finally start taking prepping seriously, and everyone will resume buying on a regular basis, and let that stockpile sit, waiting on another emergency.

If you buy from Kroger, like I do, you buy in bulk when it is on sell. I buy Northern and when a discount came up, with a limit of 5, I did so.

It's starting to not be funny anymore.

The one in Memphis had an employee test positive and Kroger tried to hide it. The union found out and until those workers who don’t make much money to risk their health get a bonus or hazard pay...don’t expect full shelves. I don’t blame em...let the old folks like the op rant and rave to managers enough Kroger might actually figure out they can’t make money with nothing on the shelves.

That's a temporary solution, and could lead to future plumbing issues in your house.

Don't worry about Kroger making money. The reason those shelves are empty is because the product that used to sit on them has been purchased. Likewise, the stock that replaces that sold merchandise will be purchased as soon as it hits the shelves, too.

According to a store manager friend of mine, their DCs are empty. That's why. The local stores can't even place it in their order. As the DCs get the products they are distributing them evenly to each store they serve. Crazy times.

Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

So, I'm assuming "DCs" stands for "distribution centers"? So my question is, why are the DCs empty? I mean, we joked when this all started that toilet paper is all made in China. That's not true, right? I have in my hand an empty container of Lysol disinfectant wipes, and all it says is "distributed" in Parisppany NJ. Doesn't say where it's made.

P&G makes Charmin at its plant in Mehoopany, PA.

They'll probably need armed guards outside that plant now to protect themselves from roving bands of toilet paper marauders.

Just as I suspected Kroger gives in and offers hazard pay to DC workers...as they should.

And when the teamsters walk out who stocks that product on the trucks? The ceo ain’t gonna come to Memphis and throw boxes.

Our world to save a few extra pennies on everything, inventory at plants and DC are 24-48 hour supply. No one wants to spend money on inventory that just sits there. The problem is now it is hard to keep up for supply.

I know the makers of a major US TP opened up previous dormant lines and a west coast plant to keep up with paper product supply issues. Trust me, they are on top of it. Empty shelves are lost sales. It will take a bit to sort out but the supply is coming.

FYI, lot of janitorial supply places have way more TP than they need as most people are at home and businesses aren't ordering in near the quantity as they were since they are mostly shut down.

I run the customer service team for an online butcher. We don't sell TP obviously, but our sales quadrupled practically overnight about 3 weeks ago, and it is showing no signs of letting up. I would have to imagine Kroger should be catching up soon. People can only hoard so much, and folks are starting to turn to delivery services such as ours to avoid going out.
