It was the last job of Torrey Ward before he tragically passed. For that reason our programs will be connected forever. Glad to see them on the schedule. Andy also coached Ward as an assistant under Murray. Maybe they and we can do something in remembrance of his life, playing, and coaching career.

I don’t know the interest level of Ill State, but, it would be a nice for UAB to dedicate our home game to him. Maybe for the Torrey Scholarship that we had a couple of years ago.

Prior to our last game up at Illinois State they did a great tribute to Torrey prior to the game.

I have no problems with a MVC team HH. That league is leaps and bounds over CUSA.

Interesting interview. My apologies if this has been posted. Some potential scheduling possibilities. Wimp and his son interview AK.

Said he would schedule aggressively and initially there may be more road games than he would like. Has many friends in college basketball.

Mentioned already having discussions for H/H with:

West Virginia
Tennessee
South Carolina
Mississippi State
South Alabama

Said he would be willing to schedule a H/H with Samford, wants to resume the Auburn series and is willing to play Alabama because this is a "different time".

Someone really should bring back the Alabama Jam with every D1 team in Alabama playing 2-3 games over a Fri-Sun weekend at the newly-renovated BJCC:
UAB
Auburn
Alabama
Samford
Alabama State
Alabama A&M
Troy
South Alabama
North Alabama(new to D1)
Jacksonville State

There would be enough teams so teams that wanted to avoid one another could:
...Alabama and Auburn(same conference)
...Alabama State and Alabama A&M(same conference)
...Troy and South Alabama(same conference)
...Alabama & UAB

I think that this would be an awesome event for December. However, I would prefer it to be a single elimination tournament with a state championship with the trophy being awarded by the governor. The proceeds could be split between the participating teams for a designated in-state charity selected by the team’s players.

The bracket would be filled by a blind draw. Teams that do not participate will miss out on competing for a state championship along with the recognition for raising money for an in-state charity selected by their players. Lack of participation may affect the school’s prestige and invite public disapproval and scorn. This tournament would be for the people of the State of Alabama not strength of schedule. It would be to celebrate and promote college basketball while raising money for worthy charities.

Additional events could include scheduled pep rallies and a parade featuring the bands from each school along with the basketball teams, the Governor hosted by the Mayor and dignitaries from the designated charities.

Thanks for posting the summary. This gif sums up my reaction well:
