Honestly I helped a box turtle yesterday which had the most unusual problem. He had mounted the female while she was walking up a hill and had fallen on his back while still engaged. Poor guy he couldn't pull out and couldn't remount. So like the thoughtful soul I am I repositioned him and as much as a turtle can look thankful he did. Now I only relate this story because that's how damned bored I am.

We stocked up a month ago and have just now started running out of milk. Publix will deliver. So the highlight of my evening will be placing an online Publix order. My wife has made me her version of a N95 mask so with my rubber gloves I'm ready now for Turtle gynecology! I haven't even seen my first snake this year and so far no rabbits either. At least the bees are pollinating!

It would be a perfect time to paint the inside of the house but I didn't have the foresight to get the paint before the panic. And with the students gone there are nothing but old ladies to look at when you walk. And I noticed on the trail the other day that even the squirrels were practicing social distancing. And one of them flashed a sign at me that read, "No Nuts For the Chicoms!"

Yes Mensa you had better stay away. Even the squirrels in Auburn are conservative and have been known to attack liberals. They can do it without fear of prosecution because being a squirrel has some advantages.

Hell even the racoons are anti-social these days.

I'll look forward to June and July when I can pick my blueberries and will probably only plant peas, butterbeans and potatoes this year. What good are tomatoes when you can't take your excess to the neighbors.

But the great part of all of this so far is that nobody is speeding down our street anymore. The neighbors all still go for a walk but you see them step out to mid street when passing somebody on the sidewalk.

It's so bizarre.

03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao Too funny.

I've been busy keeping my girfriend busy. She's a hairdresser and her shop is closed until further notice. Since she loves to paint I let her paint my office/gun working shop but that only took her 5 hours. She decided to paint all my kitchen cabinets and that's taking her considerably longer. I just stay out of her way.

I've been entertaining myself with spending money on-line and waiting like a kid at Christmas for packages to arrive. My latest hobby has become working on guns so most of my purchases have been gun related.

My lawn hasn't really started coming in yet but it will as soon as it warms up so I haven't seen any promiscuous turtles yet but I'll keep an eye out as it sounds entertaining.

Some people don’t know how lucky they are....speaking of you. I wish I could quit but I can’t. Most people don’t know this but golf was invented by the devil. You got to be a masochist to enjoy the mental pain it inflicts on you. And the devil loves all the cussin’ 03-lmfao

I'm playing golf with a group of old farts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So far I'm holding my own in the skins games.

Otherwise things are going well.

By the way, I once beat Tiger over 18 holes. Of course, he was 7 at the time.

I'll take a stab in the dark.....you're a Woodlands guy, Ja?!

I'm curious, did you ever meet/play with 'gentle' Ben or the 'iron' Byron??

both are/were the 'purest shot' when it comes to being a gentleman....not too shabby with the flat stick either...

yeah, I know a little bit about muh golf, the swing, and the history behind it, too...

good for you and your twice/wk game....I miss those days more than one can imagine...

me and my bookie from McComb were going to Windance just north of Gulfport next week.....that isn't happening now....he's at risk as I am, and a potential carrier as well....

other days and other lays....

(04-04-2020 07:33 AM)CardinalJim Wrote:  My life hasn’t changed much since this started. I retired in last April, one year ago on the 14th. My fiancé is an essential. She is in charge of the lunch program that’s presently feeding over 21,000 students two meals a day for Jefferson County Public Schools. She will retire in 2021.

We were well prepared for this pandemic for two reasons. One I have never trusted the government for anything. My family is from the hills of Eastern Kentucky. Self reliance is part of my DNA. We built the first white settlement East of the Alleghenies in the 1780’s.

When this story started breaking in December and January, my natural distrust of the government and my independent, self reliant streak made me underestimate its severity. Thankfully I had started preparing for this for another reason.

Last June I took my Granddaughters on a trip to the Cabbage Patch Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia. While driving through Kentucky, across Tennessee into North-central Georgia last June I noticed the fields that hadn’t been planted or were just being planted. My natural response when I got home was to start hoarding food.

Over about a three month period last summer to early fall I purchased approximately 7 cases of each of what I consider essential vegetables, beans and meats. I still remember the looks I was getting for pushing cases of can goods to the checkout at Walmart and IGA.

Since October I have been going to the store about once a month while my fiancé worked. I simply replaced the cans I used each month with more can goods. I keep a minimal amount of fresh meat, about a months worth, in the freezer at anyone time because I worry about the electrical grid. I have a 7000w generator ready to go in the shed if I need it.

This spring I have started learning to dry meat. Both my grandparents had smoke houses but preserving meat is something I had never done.

I am presently rotating through the water supplies that have collected since last year. I buy the 40 bottle packs when available. I have tried to keep 20 on hand. My last trip to the stores in early March I bought 10 cases.

This spring I am growing two gardens. One at our home here in Fairdale and one at my step son’s home about a mile away. I presently have my tomato plants seeded in the basement under grow lights.

My Dad and I often talked about buying property back in the hills and building a cabin using the techniques of our forefathers and adding things like solar panels and a basement. I believe that will be my next project.

I hope each of you was well prepared for this situation. I pray if you weren’t that you start preparing as soon as this situation eases or breaks. This won’t be the last time we see something like this.

Now that the government has seen how effectively fear paralyzes the people these type of events will happen more often.

Good luck
Keep your powder dry...

Damn, I've only ever met wacked out democrats from Eastern KY. Good to know that everyone from that part of the state isn't a loon!

I had a direct report who lived in Louisa, I couldn't stand that weirdo. He was a typical democrat, lazy as hell, entitled and weak. I tried to fire him on multiple occasions, with good reason, and since KY is a union state they always stepped in and saved that worthless lump of flesh every single time.

I know Louisa well. Meth and Opioid addiction is bad there, as it is all over the state.

My family is from Staffordsville in Johnson County. All Republicans

Kentucky is now a Right to Work State. The state legislature became Republican last election cycle and took the opportunity to pass legislation that our Republican Governor agreed to sign.

The Right to Work referendum finally released the hold the corrupt unions had on Kentucky employers.

So we’ve been on mandatory telework orders for a few days.

Upside: I’m on active duty and I haven’t shaved the in a few days and my hair is laughably out of reg. I’ve missed looking normal.

Further Upside: my wife and I are finding new hobbies to share. We start planting our 1st vegetable garden tomorrow.

Haha!! 03-lmfao I kind of thought the same thing........”shot 74, but couldn’t make a putt”. He’s far better than me. I did shoot 79 today (very, very good for me), but I do admit I normally play a bit loose with the strict rules of golf.03-cloud9

RE: How is everybody doing?
Yesterday I went to the grocery store and my wife said to wear my N95 face mask that I had in my tool shed. I didn't even know I had it. I drive into the parking lot and don my mask and let me tell you guys, I felt stupid as heck, and this from a retired firefighter who have to wear them sometimes. Anyway, I walk in and felt like everyone was watching me and calling me a wuss under their breath. After being in the store looking for items the mask started getting uncomfortable and it was making my glasses fog up. I have hay fever around this time and I start with the runny nose. So now I have a runny nose and fogged up glasses. I finish my shopping and am waiting in line and I started getting really uncomfortable with my runny nose. I pull it up and start blowing my nose and the people just look at me weird. Hey, it's not my fault my nose wanted to go jogging. Here I am with a wet handkerchief now and wet fingers, yep, it was running that badly. I put my mask on again use the card machine and off I go. Now I'm in my truck and I still have to finish cleaning my nose. Man, I don't know why the mask made my hay fever so bad. I'm not wearing it anymore. Screw the germs, no mask for me. I haven't had the runny nose so far, it was the mask's fault.

It's probably from the mold that grew in it while being in your shed. The moisture in those things is ridiculous after you breathe in it.

We are really trying hard to stay at home. Basically get out twice a week for an hour or so to get groceries, meds, etc.

Everybody has heartbreaking stories regarding these times. Many people and families are really suffering with job loss, sickness, financial problems. We feel fortunate that we’re healthy so, far and that we are able to help friends and family.

My sweet little mother is in a Sr. Living home. Her 91st birthday is this coming Wednesday. We haven’t been able to visit her in weeks. I’m not sure what we can do for her birthday celebration other than call or FaceTime. She’s very lonely. Makes me sad.

His school has sent weekly lesson plans with pdf’s & video links to work on, then they have optional (public school - not all students in the system have access to computers/WiFi) zoom calls with his teachers & classmates. They also set up edmodo accounts for each subject’s teacher to allow communication outside of the calls. He also has club soccer drills/workouts & zoom calls with his team to keep him active.

My work is slow, but I still have a job. My husband’s contract was suspended for 90 days, so he filled out forms for unemployment yesterday. TN’s unemployment benefit is ridiculously low, so the covid package from the federal government will help a lot once it comes into play. We keep reminding ourselves with me carrying the health benefits, we’re a lot better off than some.

My 83 year old Mom is 20 minutes away but by herself, but she’s doing well. She grew up in the depression & WWII, so this isn’t foreign to her. My father in law, who lives in rural west TN, had to go to Vanderbilt last week for a heart cath where they did a stent, but he’s at home now & doing fine. He actually went fishing the other day.

The fridge is full, the 3 of us have our health, and there’s plenty of beer, wine, and vodka. Zoom calls with friends at night help with the isolation.

Even with the loss of 2/3 of our household income, complaining would be silly.

Isnt Tenn under a stay at home? I though you said we were bad Americans if didnt obey our dictators? I read your reply to Stink yesterday and you didnt get a word he was telling you....

let me try.

A person who I assume is in the high risk range in age and since he " Vanderbilt last week for a heart cath" is also high on the risk side because of underlying conditions.

If those people stayed put...lock their doors and not go out and no one had any physical contact unless with in a safe distant....the death rate wouldnt matter. More people would die on the south side of Chicago over a holiday weekend. The rest of us bad Americans could get on with doing what we do.

Did you call and report him to the government?

You guys suck. I have spent the last 19 days making sweet love to my adorable wife. Every single day. Multiple times a day, because that is the man I am. From a Cure song, " funny how it felt so soft at the time, but I always used to wake up sore." It is amazing how bonded two people can become with such time on their hands, and our love has exploded with each 3-hour interlude of social distancing violation. You trolls need to get right about this and make some sweet love to your lady, early and often.

Ok, I am really bored as hell. My wife is an xray tech at a local hospital and is exposed and exhausted. We are grateful to be employed and not worrying about bills, etc. Be well and treat those you love well. It matters during times like these.

Blessed to be doing well here. We are doing online classes, so I still have stuff to do to keep me from being bored.

Had a long chat with my son in Tokyo yesterday. Japan isn't really doing much in the way of quarantining--all voluntary, nothing required--and so far their cases and deaths have both been pretty low. He was supposed to come home for a friend's wedding this weekend, but now if he leaves Japan he does not have 100% certainty of being allowed back in, and would probably have to do a 14 day quarantine if he did get back in.
