Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez tells his spring senior student-athletes they can't come back to Madison for a 5th year.

Don't want to spend money for non-rev sports.

You may also notice they don’t sponsor baseball.

It may come across as callous or insensitive but Rice should try to reach out to student-athletes that are being negatively affected by the coronavirus, and perhaps offer them an opportunity to finish or continue their academic and athletic careers at Rice (assuming we can). Reach out to the students obviously who are Rice material.

For instance, Boston University said Friday that they may not be able to have school on campus for the fall semester of 2020 (but that they hoped to be back on campus in the winter 2021 semester). Obviously if that happens, their fall athletes are screwed. Their top freshman women's cross country runner happens to be the daughter of an ex-Rice swimmer (and triathlete) named Ron Jacobs. I posted her bio below. If other schools can't re-open in the fall but Rice can - take advantage of that situation. It's rather cutthroat, but Rice has been poached by many other schools in other sports so why not try to turn the tables?

I'd be surprised if the transfer waivers get approved that quickly. Also, even if Rice can open, it's unlikely that all of C-USA will be cleared for an entire season, let alone NCAA championships be held.

Also, relevant to this discussion, Rice just announced this week that the first summer school term will be remote (and at discount price). They're also requiring summer programs to turn remote, so O-Week coordinators won't be on campus. They didn't mention it explicitly, but I would be surprised if summer volleyball, basketball, cross country, or football happen.

According to her bio, she's "enrolled in the Questrom School of Business with plans to concentrate in marketing and global management."

Does Rice have an equivalent course of study for this interest/major?

The business school only has a minor for undergrads. It's the most popular minor on campus, but no bachelor's program (and no official plans for one), yet. The closest BA is Sport Management which does offer classes in marketing and sales, but nothing international.

The School of Social Sciences is developing an undergraduate business curriculum that includes marketing, but it's likely another year or two out before it becomes available.

So is Rice going to begin offering BBAs?

Or BBSs, Bachelor of Business Science?
