Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium
Well done documentary of a little known (but integral to the South’s CFB history) stadium. Some people called Jackson the capital of college football back in its heyday.

Didn’t know Ole Miss and Mississippi St at one point played majority of their home games in Jackson. Jackson would host SEC day-night doubleheaders like Tennessee/Ole Miss & LSU/MSU.

The Vet hosted classics such as Mississippi St toppling top-ranked Alabama and 64k SWAC sellouts like Alcorn/Valley that featured Jerry Rice or Walter Payton’s Jackson St era.

Surprised Jackson never jumped into the bowl foray after the Rebels and Bulldogs ditched them in the 90s.

Hmm, I wonder what sort of condition it is. Might be ideal for Southern Miss to try to attract a game with a nearby SEC school that could make them good money. I wonder if they have tried to exploit that.

Jackson State still plays home games there, but they had looked into building a stadium of their own. Those plans are on hold, so Jackson State still uses Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

There were plans for the University of Mississippi Medical Center to take over the property and bulldoze the stadium, but those are on hold since the stadium is still being used.

I presume the stadium is not in good shape.

There is a lot of history there. I remember when Ole Miss and Mississippi State played games there, but it was a long time ago. This stadium was larger than either of the on-campus stadiums, and was closer to more of both schools' fan bases. Once Ole Miss and MSU expanded and modernized their stadiums, there was no need to play in Jackson.

It's very similar to what happened between Arkansas and their second home stadium in Little Rock.

Jackson State still packs it out. This season they led FCS in attendance with over 34k per home game.
