Defense...yikes. Our worst one on paper since 2015. Let’s hope we score lots of points.

I disagree on the Defensive side. There are question mark areas but we were young in a lot of areas last year and we worked guys in for experience to have some decent options this year. I still think we are in need of a rush end, but I think this might be a bend, don't break year on Defense. I still like the defense and think they will have the chip on shoulder mentality and surprise some people.

Hey guys, pretty cool youtube video detailing the upcoming season. Shows a week by week for every team.

I hope you’re right. Last season was also a “bend don’t break” defense, and we lost the best playmakers from that squad. We couldn’t get to the QB and did very little to address that issue up front with recruiting. Hopefully the new guys prove me wrong, but we had All-MAC players in our secondary and even THEY struggled because we got smoked at the LOS.

I trust Creighton and Neathery to get the most out of these guys, but I don’t see how we will match last season’s defense, let alone improve from it. Maybe you see something that I don’t, but I think we are going to give up a ton of points. Let’s hope the offense hums, which it very well could.

Alex doesn't seem too high on the WR group, or at least unsure. I understand Sexton and Jackson were both good players but Drummond, Williams, and Beydoun were all major contributors last year and all three were only sophomores. I think there is a good chance all three (or at least Drummond and Williams) end up being better players than Sexton and Jackson (and that is saying a lot). Grissom has also has shown he may be the top athlete on the offensive said of the ball, whether or not he's a true WR remains to be seen, but he for sure is a major weapon.

He also doesn't talk much about CJ Parks, who could come in and be the best of the whole bunch from day one. There is a reason he had offers from schools like UCLA, Boston College, Iowa State, Illinois, and Rutgers coming out of high school and was then one of the top 10 WRs in all of JUCO football last year. He is the second highest rated recruit we've gotten in the 247 era, which means he's probably one of if not the top WR we've ever gotten in terms of recruiting. I know that doesn't always mean a whole lot, but he's a kid we should be excited about!

I think this is the strongest position group on the team.

I agree that Parks is probably destined to be a starter. Lot of raw talent.

Need at least 6 WRs to play a lot. Drummond, Williams, Beydoun, Parks, and Grissom. That's a very good 5. It'll be interesting to see which of the younger players jumps into the mix.

I agree with a 6th contributor! We need A solid QB, and somehow a running game to get the best out of these WR! Parks and Grissom have NFL athleticism, and hands! Qian isn't far behind! This is the most talent I can ever remember at one position! [/align]

Agree with you both. Michael Thompson would seem to be the obvious favorite there. Maybe one of the freshmen (I'd guess either Small or Barrett) will be ready to go. The tight end position should add a lot of targets in the passing game as well with Cannon, Odukoya, and Oakes all back.

Man, I was thinking the same thing. I respect Alex but I thought his take on the WR's was off. That is one of the strong suits of this team along with OL. Beydoun, Quian, and Drummond will be studs and I think the JUCO transfer will easily be in that top 4. You have to think about how our group of 4, maybe 5 WR's stack up against other teams in the MAC. Which team in the MAC has that kind of depth? I'm reading about 6 WR's but can anyone name Clemson's or Bama's 4th WR? You need 3 go to guys and guys 4-6 that fill in nicely. I am really excited about Helbig or Hutch throwing the rock to these guys. Light it up this year boys!

RE: (Fake) spring ball thread
Yeah, I appreciate what he does, but that wasn’t his best take. As said above, if you’re worried about who your 4th and 5th receivers are, then you don’t really have a problem. Wide receiver is our strongest position by far. Quian Williams could be one of the best in the conference, while Drummond and Beydoun are both coming off strong years. I’m sure some newcomers will adequately fill the other roles.

There’s plenty about this team that I’m not sold on, but WR, along with most of the offense, isn’t on that list.

The O-line should be a real strength. I wonder why there has been no talk of Dooley to LT after playing pretty well at RT as a RS-freshmen? I also like the idea of McAdams at that spot, but it also seems like Howie is ready to bust out, and the good thing with him is that it sounds like he can play all over the line. I see it playing out one of two ways:

LT-McAdams
LG-Sow
C-Van Hoeven
RG-Donnell
RT-Dooley

or

LT-Sow
LG-Howie
C-Van Hoeven
RG-Donnell
RT-Dooley

The one curve ball could be if Douglas is ruled eligible and then able to earn a spot. Obviously a fairly big recruit and was at MSU, so a pretty talented kid. Either way these are nice problems to have! After their performance against the vaunted Pitt d-line, I'm excited to see what the o-line does this year!

He did get screwed there. I love Dylan Drummond, but Quian was better and should’ve got All-MAC.

I’m expecting a monstrous year from him as long as the QB play is even remotely decent. He has a chance to be the best WR Creighton has ever had, and that’s saying something.

The WR group is going to be loaded this yr. Also add in Beydoun who had a good yr last season. The best part of this is that Creighton has recruited good, competitive guys who will push each other. TE should be good as well. The recruiting the last 2 seasons has been fantastic and we are starting to see benefits

I know we've discussed the WR group already, but yes with Williams, Drummond, Beydoun, Parks, and Grissom we should have the best group in the MAC.

I think this is wise. I would encourage one stipulation, ANY scholarship athlete who does not feel comfortable returning, should retain said scholarship and feel no obligation to participate.

Agree. They are student athletes, not employees.
