The time to go is as soon as you will be a first round draftee. The time to stay is if staying will improve your chances.

K2, it is not his time. If his goal is to play overseas, well good luck K2.

I am going to be selfish and admit I just hope he returns because it really helps our teams chances next year. I think next years team is a tourney team if KW is back and no tourney if he leaves.

He was learning to play man-to-man after playing zone multiple years. He also had bad help and pick-and-roll defense behind him in Vogt. He definitely could have been (and can be) better, but teams attacked pretty much every player on the team off the dribble and I don't think Keith was one of their main targets.

He says he's intent on hiring an agent... but keeping his options open?

Is that possible?

As of last year it is.

You can hire an agent and test the waters, but as long as you don't participate in the combine and also declare you're returning before a certain day, you can return to school.

Other NCAA sports were already allowed to seek advice from "advisors" who were often agents. This formalized the process for basketball and ultimately helps the kids out.

Keith's just testing the waters to gather real feedback from agents and NBA personnel to understand what he needs to improve upon to better himself heading into his senior season. That's really all this is.

For sure. Keith was not a plus defender.

The one thing he's got going for him is athleticism but he's not a young player. He's played 3 years and seemingly made no progress ball handling. Tre was allowed to initiate more offense as a forward than KW did this year.

I mean there's no damage in going through the workouts if they happen and if he's invited but a guy who's only above average skill after 3 years is athleticism doesn't scream pro to me. There aren't a lot of NBA 2 guards who are poor ball handlers.

His announcement posted in this very thread does not look like he’s just testing the waters. I’m not saying he won’t come back, but it sure sounds like mentally he’s gone.

Honestly, it might just be a matter of circumstance. At this point in time what is there to come back to at the collegiate level? Sure, all pro and amateur sports are in a holding pattern but declaring pro may allow him to access resources and training that might be restricted under ncaa rules.

I think a lot of guys are going to return to college. There won't be any draft camps or combine going on this spring. Plus they are talking about pushing the draft to August or September now. Will the NCAA extend the withdrawl date or still keep it as is.

They can't push the date back much. Classes start in August and teams are going to have to know who they have so they can fill their rosters with players who don't return. I can't see them pushing the return date past June.

RE: K2
As others have rightly said, this is doubtless just KW finding out where he stands. At the moment he’s skilled enough to get paid to play Basketball by *someone*, just not the NBA. If his family’s finances are bad enough that he doesn’t care if that pay cones from Australia or China or something, maybe he goes. If he wants to play in the NBA he will get advice regards what to work on (ball handling, outside shooting, defending).

I look forward to seeing what he can do as the alpha dog. As a slasher he can be electrifying, he has athleticism you just cannot teach. Is he cold blooded enough to lead a team? Can’t be sure when he doesn’t have a Jarron or Tre to lean on, but his USF heroics were a good sign.

This is all really standard procedure nowadays. He'll get to access an agent, speaking with NBA scouts and personnel, all of which would be illegal under NCAA rules except during this specific window and this specific rule.

At the end of the day, it's highly unlikely that those scouts will tell him that he's NBA-ready but they'll give him honest feedback and what he needs to improve in order to better his chances after next season. He would be doing himself a disservice if he didn't "put his name in the field" to get this information and at the end of the day it'll make him and this team even better next season.

i'm actually thinking way more practically, like a private workout facility or trainers/coaching.

Oh for sure, that would make total sense. Regardless of what he's doing with this time, it's really going towards making him a better Bearcat in 2020-21 and not a player of some other team.

I hope to heck he comes back and takes his Senior year to another level and improves his chances playing pro.

I don't see K2 as an NBAer at this time. Only first round picks are guaranteed contracts. Kevin needs to return and improve some of his skills before shooting for the stars.
