Wetherbee is the emptiest of empty suits.

I cannot defend Wetherbee in any way, he seems to be wanting with respect to administrative skills. Announce Murphy is coming back but do you really have to make the comment, "if you haven't won in ten years, maybe you need to do something else". A spot on, fabulously genuine comment that should have been shared ONLY with Rob Murphy and NOT with the news media. Apparently our AD does not realize that potential recruits have access to the news media and does not consider the negative effects of such a comment to the program.

Then again this is the guy who informed us that if he knew EMU was going to have to cut sports, he might not have taken the job. Additionally without HIS extension of Murphy two seasons ago, his dismissal now would have cost EMU nothing. I think the Peter Principle has proven itself here. We have a Men's basketball coach and an Athletic Director punching way beyond their weight class. Neither owns any responsibility for failures.
Yeah he hasnt impressed me the AD

Add baseball coach to that as well.

Speaking of baseball, the NCAA just extended the eligibility of seniors another year. What are your thoughts?

Pretty disastrous hire. It’s like they didn’t have a contingency plan if they didn’t get Saddi Washington. Or, at least, not a good one.

It’s inexcusable. There are so many excellent coaching prospects at the lower levels who are just looking for a chance.

Both Brandon Johnson and Michael Flowers are transferring now. They’re going to be terrible next season. I guess hiring a longtime assistant of the guy they just fired didn’t appease the players very much.

If we don't make a decent hire, then this will be us in 2 seasons! We lose what 7 seniors?

Johnson according to the WMU board is a grad transfer and eligible immediately. Flowers I think might have to sit a season.

If things continue the way they are, we will be a favorite to win the MAC West next season.

Does that make sense? Probably not, but neither does any other statements.

Things are crazy these days.

We don't know if some players will transfer to be close to home. Any teams big winners? Losers?

I suggest we all relax and see what things look like in Summer.

Wetherbee has been advocating for a few years that Rob goes to man-to-man. I think that's what he meant.

Interesting, clever you picked up on that. And makes way more sense than Wetherbee is completely tactless. (Though probably still could have kept this conversation private).

Then tell Rob that MAN to MAN. Don't be a media weasel, that is one of my concerns with Murphy's penchant for identifying player failures in post game pressers.

Better yet, fire the guy and HIRE someone who plays man to man. Unbelievable that a guy who hasn't even sniffed a conference championship in 9 years is still employed.

RE: Murphy to return next season
I am not defending anyone in this debacle.

We're at the point that Rob Murphy being employed as the head coach is beyond defensible except for one major factor: money. He has shown from basically the beginning that this is all about him, not about the team, EMU, or the Ypsilanti community.

This is not a situation that is solved by dropping down a division or two, as someone suggested.

I don't have an answer besides "raise the money you need and get rid of him." That obviously is an issue we've faced for years, and we're not alone.

At least EMU isn't sending out reminders to will some of our money to the athletic department in case we die from COVID-19 like Ole Miss did I suppose.

There are 315,000 reasons why Murphy is back and I agree with them. Am I happy with his overall performance? Hell no! Still the world has changed and we need to realize that. Reduced NCAA revenues rocked the world of MAC athletic departments and I am sure near term donor receipts will decline as well. Witness the comical coaching situation recently at WMU basketball, they refused to extend the contract of the MAC West's most successful career coach understandably, but only ended up promoting an unproven assistant at a bargain rate instead. Wow!

The financial situation is dire to say the least. WMU and CMU are entering the world EMU did two years ago. They just don't have the low fruit harvest of cutting sports that EMU did as they are not in the 20+ range that EMU was. Both schools, however, do have significant corporate local donors that EMU does not enjoy due to the fact that don't reside 6 miles from a Major University sports revenue machine. That said, how much money can WMU plan on from their now starving local businesses in this coming year? CMU is hurting like it's sister schools for enrollment, thus they gave up a home game vs. Western to play at Ford Field in the hopes that such exposure might increase enrollment. That decision is being panned, obviously by the local businesses depending on revenue from the game and I don't see many of them dumping a whole lot of money into the program this year regardless of their financial situation.

Yes we need to keep Murphy, we cannot responsibly buy him out given current conditions. As far as dropping down a division in the NCAA, the MAC has clearly already done that with respect to being nationally competitive. KenPom had Akron, the league's best team ranked 82 nationally! We are a one bid league, plain and simple as of today. As fabulous as Nate Oats was at Buffalo, he did not make it past the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Apparently you have not heard that the head of the CDC has mentioned a potential second wave of the virus in the fall?

Okay. I'm retired and read a lot of this and use intellectual rigor.

first, there was some discussion about moving the season UP to 'beat' a potential second wave.

The season starts late this year, because Labor Day is late this year. Could move up say 2 weeks and try to finish the regular season by early November, not late November.

Second, I may read this text different than you. Yes, there is a chance but it isn't great (according to the aggregated responses of the respondents).

The text suggests that the season being canceled is a small probability. No one is say they said 50 - 50 chance. (50 - 50 chance is the most pessimistic outlook).

And third, the NFL is planning on a full season.

Getting back to one of your predicates is that a second wave will come and when?

Remember, the NCAA season could end by election day if the NCAA and conferences wish.

The MAC could move the 'back end' of the schedule to the 3rd and 4th weekends in August (not really different than some FCS schools starting early). If there is a 12th game left in November it could be canceled. The season could run for mid-late August thru the end of October.

P.S. to the NCAA, I wish they'd give conferences the option of starting a week early and moving games from the LAST weekend of the season to late August.
