What if most of us have already had it?
https://spectator.us/half-uk-population-...ronavirus/

"...An Italian study published yesterday — which analyzed the results from a village near Venice where all 3,000 residents were tested for the virus — suggested that between 50 percent and 75 percent of those infected show no symptoms.

It has to be emphasized that the Oxford study is theoretical, and it shouldn’t be taken as a call to end the lockdown restrictions — at least, not yet. What it does show is the wide gap between scientists on the likely path of the epidemic. Above all, it underlines the importance of finding out how widespread the infection is in the UK population.

All policy hinges on this, yet no one has any idea of how many people have the virus. As a matter of urgency, we need to test a randomized sample of the population to find this out. The Oxford team says it will begin testing a sample of the population for evidence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2. It should come as no surprise if, as more evidence comes in and we have a better idea of infection rates, we end up a different policy on COVID-19."

I've been saying for weeks that every drop of blood given should be tested for antibodies.

I think I have already had it.

I think my wife has already had it.

But I'm stuck in my house because the government knows better than I do.

RE: What if most of us have already had it?
It seems that most officials have been pretty careful to emphasize slowing the spread rather than saying eliminating the virus altogether. I heard one report of an official stating that up to 80% of the people in this room will get the virus. Now that was just some local county council meeting, but I wondered after hearing that if perhaps all of us, or most of us have had it/will get it. As for the majority, the symptoms are said to be mild to non-existent, that seems a possibility. If so, then theoretically afterwards we will all, or nearly all build up immunities against this mild but highly contagious virus and move on to whatever is the next thing.

I do hope that we can learn some valuable lessons about how to handle this kind of outbreak next time, and there will assuredly be a next time. One thing is clear: having strong national borders that are able to be closed rapidly if needed is an essential element: so I hope they are still working on Building That Wall, and allocating resources to expand it across our southern border.

These numbers all matches up with the experience on the Diamond Princess as well. All 4000 were exposed and tested, 80% tested negative and 60% of those who tested positive NEVER had symptoms.

My wife insists our whole family, and half the families at my kids' small school had in early January.

THIS. Been saying this for a while.

Not disagreeing with your last comment, just not wanting to get sidetracked by the left by it.

I'd also note that while of course we don't know what the next thing will be, the more similar things you have antibodies for, the generally better you're able to fight similar things.

My son probably had it two weeks ago. Dry cough and hurt to breathe deep and chills at night for a little over a week. Never missed a day of school and played baseball everyday. Daughter had similar symptoms about a month ago. Lethargy, headaches and had fever for two days. Missed one day of work. Gave them each Tylenol. Gave the boy Robitussen. Gave the girl Dimetapp. She was only sick for three or four days.

I lean around 70% it went through my family around the turn of the year. We all had a few days of fever, coughing, hard to breath issues. It lasted the longest with my mother, but it hit my daughter the hardest. My daughter had the highest fever and the most issues but only for about 3 days.

A gazillion of us have or had it. I am still off a little but that might be because the gyms have been closed. Home workout is ok but I miss the sauna.

As I posted in another thread it has been here since late 2019.

RE: What if most of us have already had it?
Around Christmas time everyone in my house came down with something that gave us a bad cough and fever. I never get really sick and I was still down with a high temp(103-104) for couple of days. Lasted about 2 weeks and we were all back up in running. I never went to the doc, but my wife being a nurse went for a flu swab and it was negative. I have no doubt we had this bug

My Grandpa was in the hospital in December, supposedly for bronchitis. But, The doc didn’t have an explanation for a lot of other things that were going wrong for Grandpa while in the hospital during Christmas. I had my own sickness back in October, and I never, ever get sick. I just took Theraflu for two weeks. That’s what I picked up for us two Wednesday’s ago. That, mucinex, and vitamin c

RE: What if most of us have already had it?
I may have had it in December. Out of nowhere, I just felt as bad as I have ever felt for about two days, and in the middle of it I had this raging fever. But it didn't last that long, so maybe it wasn't, or maybe I had some kind of immunity. On some Navy chat boards/groups that I follow, there have been jokes that anyone who ever went ashore in Subic Bay/Olongapo should be immune to anything. There may be some truth to that.

You would reasonably have to compare ventilator usage numbers compared to past years to see if a lot of people already had it.

What if most of us have already had it?
A nasty cheat cold came through here around Christmas and New Year. It was bad enough that I quit smoking cold turkey and it was easy. Never got a fever though. Wife got it and had a low grade fever. My 4 year old spiked a 104 temp. Flu and strep tested negative. Next day she was 100% like nothing was ever wrong. My other kids never showed symptoms.

RE: What if most of us have already had it?
I think I might have had it over the last week or so. I had a mild dry coughing spell once a day for a few days and I rarely ever cough. I felt some very mild breathing symptoms for a few hours 2 nights in a row, but it was very, very mild. I was also feeling feverish one night, but it quickly passed.

If I did contract it was an extremely mild case that seems like its gone now.

A number of people at my spouse's work speculate they had it in December. They've got a number of people who travel.

To me--this is kind of a so what? Is there really still a question as to whether or not the virus was able to completely overwhelm the Italian healthcare system? Everyone knows that most of the population will survive the virus. Heck---even the vast majority of the "at risk" population will survive a bout with the virus. What we also know is that we will still have a healthcare system failure if the virus is allowed to just run its course in an unfettered fashion. The trick is to find the right balance of quarantines, restirictions, and equipment surges that allows the healthcare system to keep up while doing as little economic damage as possible.

If all these people think they had it in the past, it wouldn’t make sense that we are now seeing a surge in hospitalizations just now unless it was here before and mutated to be more severe.
