I feel very confident that 'child' means 'dependent'. If they file their own taxes, they get the adult credit. That's how our taxes are designed.

Yep, as long as they can't be claimed as a dependent by someone else they should be good to go given they meet the other criteria.

You really believe the IRS is competent enough to make those discernments. They gonna print checks like crazy and send everything not resembling a fire plug a check.

Wait and see. There will be dead folks getting checks

But they would build up a immunity and we wouldnt be seeing the world losing half of its wealth and go crazy. A lot of these deaths are the same ones that also die from the flu.

Meh... Wealth isn't measured by short-term issues.

As to your opinion above, that flies in the face of the evidence I presented.

Social distancing practiced properly wouldn't involve shutting all of these businesses etc.... it would simply mean working from home, staying home, wearing a mask and reasonable efforts at avoiding people (or at spreading your fluids) if you're sick. If you're not sick, go to work as usual. If there is a bad strain going around like this, you simply act like you're sick and don't want to spread it to others, but not so sick that you can't go to work.

If we practice this, death from the flu go down a lot as well.

So you want to shutdown for the flu? How about outlawing all smoking? Alcohol? Cars? Sweets? Cokes? Every single one of those kills more than the coronavirus.

The evidence point to those that are really old...70+ and those that are really sick, are the ones dying from this. That is the facts. There is no evidence pointing to anyone (of course a few will) young and healthy dying from this.

Those at risk could have stayed at home, shut in, no contact, other than medical. Those numbers goes down. The rest of the world goes about it businesses like it does every other year.

If you want to be afraid, lock yourself in. Your choice. You are 100% wrong in saying Social distancing wouldn't involve shutting down the country. Only a very few can work from home. Those low paying jibs needs a ass sitting right there when you walk in. This country stops without that. Stop acting like a idiot and think for yourself. Well, maybe, not, if that's your thoughts.

Old people and especially old sick people die. You are not stopping that. Why do you think you can? If they dont die from the coronavirus or the flu...heart disease gets them 6 months or a year down the line. We all die...

if it was targeting the young and those healthy, then panic. Why are you so afraid of people dying and think you have a control over life?

Wow...
I don't know how better to describe NOT shutting down, yet that is what you got from my post?

Japan lives an extreme version of this way every day. They clearly aren't shut down on a daily basis. You are simply moving from event to event being reactionary (and justifying 'shut downs' to some). I am talking about making shut downs unnecessary, because people take reasonable precautions anyway.

What says 'shut down' about teaching kids not to lick hand-rails, having 'open' food (like a bin of self-serve bagels) be replaced by contained or 'served' food? Have you ever watched a kid wipe his nose and then select pizza at Cici's, touching 3 pieces before finally picking the one he wanted? What says 'shut down' about not wiping your nose and then shaking my hand?

Whether it kills me or not, I don't want to miss work because a picker won't wash his hands after wiping his ass.... and I'd rather not eat another kids snot.

If you're sneezing, wear a mask or stay home. If you're touching food, just like you wear a hair net, wear gloves and know how/when to change them.

If we do this, then all we'd need to do for this or any other 'pandemic' is to all act like we're sick and unless we're symptomatic, go about business as usual... knowing that others generally do the same. If we DON'T do this, then the next time another virus comes around, we're just doing this all over again.... Infecting 60mm people and putting 275,000 in the hospital.

I think your expectations for American behavior is way too high. Pollen season is starting up in the south and your plan for those affected is too wear masks and not go to work? Using japan as an example as they are are so socially distance they’re don’t practice sex. I don’t think The US youth would ever go for that

Pollen allergies are not contagious. While yes i think it would be polite for people to not wipe their snot on things I touch, that doesn't really spread disease. Allergies are not a disease and you are not 'ill' from allergies.

It's crazy that you guys keep saying things I didn't remotely say to justify your rejection of my principles.

If you have an STD (if you are sick) then you should practice safe sex. That seems self-evident.... and there are 127mm Japanese. SOME of them are clearly having sex.

If you are sick and don't care about the consequences for you, that's fine.... But stop making that decision for others who may have more important things to do. BE sick if you want... but don't infect others.

It's really pretty simple and not at all this draconian world you guys keep describing.

Should be a good time to do it provided you can swing it during this mess. Good luck being a home owner. My wife and I recently paid our home off and are debt free. It is an amazing feeling to be able to pay yourself instead of a mortgage and car loan.

Save it and wait for the foreclosures. There will be a bunch of them come this winter. A ton in new home subdivisions.

Congratulations to both of you. Fo, you won't believe how much a blessing it is to pay off your home. It's like getting a ton of bricks off your back. I was fortunate to have married an intelligent woman who had a business background and paid it off in 11 years, something that I always wanted, a mortgage free home. The amount of money that your can save after paying it off is really nice. Unfortunately, you will still have the taxes but you have that whether you pay it off or not. Hooray for you.
