Huh - No outrage?
Harvard just announced that they are laying off just about everybody on the payroll. That includes professors and all "the help".... Lots of colleges are doing this.

I have lots of questions and observations:

- These colleges - most of which are hard left leaning - seem to NOT practice what they preach. Where is the charitable spirit. Where is the support to the lesser human who is in need?
- In the case of Harvard - they have accumulated a $40 Billion dollar war chest of endowments. Most colleges (certainly the private ones) have large stockpiles of endowments.
- Not for nothin' but Tuition and fees and meal plans etc... have all been paid by these students for the whole semester. Those dollars are collected to pay those salaries, and most if not all of the administrative costs are gone (the food, electricity etc...) so the school already has reduced (prepaid) expenses. Why can't they pay the salaries of these people through the end of the semester since they already collected that money?

I pick on Harvard specifically for one reason - Elizabeth Warren. Alum and professor... also the same politician who constantly rails on and expects the rich to support the poor in regular times never mind now.

WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE????? What is her excuse for her silence on this?

You would think that the likes of Liz and the Bern should be all over their pulpit right now screaming at all these rich folks who are not supporting the people getting screwed the most by the Covid stuff. Instead they scream at Trump and just blame him for all of it.

Frankly - while I disagree with her (and many/most) democratic positions - I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, what I cannot tolerate is hypocrisy. You simply cannot get on your high horse and tell people what to do, and then suddenly go silent when that position affects your own pocket book or hits in your own back yard.

It's outrageous, and I've seen many liberals on twitter posting about it...but this is pretty far down the list right about now.

Yes and no.....

Laying people off is one part of the forward looking problem here.... The only OK thing about this is that it should be temporary. All of those jobs should be refilled (hopefully by the same people).

It is the hypocrisy that bothers me more than anything. And frankly it is also teaching a lesson to those students, many of which are being groomed to be leaders of other people, that it is ok to cover your a$$ first in times of trouble and NOT be helpful to people in need.

I am definitely a conservative and I am pro business etc..... I am against quotas, against unions, against handouts for people who are unwilling to try to help themselves, and against carrying under performers when they can be replaced with a better performer.

However, I am not an Asshat either. At a time like this, i do actually feel that if you (and/or the business) has the means to do the right thing, then you should do it.... I don't have to, but I am still paying for daycare because she needs the money, I could and usually cook at home, but right now I get take out a lot more often because the restaurants needs the business.

Not all republicans are greedy fuks, in fact most are not.

Hav-ahd has the money to pay these people and they should....

I can't rep ^^^ enough....

as a consumer, I tipped my 3 fave sushi gals on their last night 20.00 each....if I would've had 3 benjis to give, it would've been x5...

yeah, tears I saw from both sides of the table....

what the chinks started and the dems have continued is the worst thing I've seen in my life to date in hatred....

I'm beyond fk'n pissed the fk off.....

Link? The only article I found was that they laid off dining facility workers. And if Harvard is like most universities, this staff is subcontracted out through companies like Sodexo.

It’s even worse. These greedy asses will use the excuse of the market downturn. Now their $4 billion is only worth $3 billion. “Sorry you little guys. Can’t afford it now. Eat cake.”

Harvard's endowment is $40 billion. The largest in the country.

So...My guess is that Harvard's employees will now just get paid out of the 2 trillion phase 1 package like a ton of others will? Im not outraged but more amused since it is at Harvard..a bastion of Leftist ideology. I knew that this would instantly be taken advantage of the second it passed Congress.

My guess is better than yours. Harvard lays them off. They collect their benefits from Uncle Sam. Harvard hires them back and reimburses the back pay.

Harvard layoffs

So subcontracted employees again..

I'm not seeing anywhere near the amount thats eliciting the venom in this thread. The exact same work force is facing this in almost any major organization or group. I do not see professors being let go or fired. Still waiting on that.

UT Austin is doing the exact same thing. Tulane, same. Every major university is probably doing the same.

It sucks for everyone involved and a university with this much money I would hope would hold themselves to a higher standard... but not sure why theyre being held to some higher standard than any other organization by the posters here.

Huh - No outrage?
Cause perhaps they should be setting an example?
Aren’t they “teaching the next generation?”. Teaching them what, exactly?

Self sufficiency in times of difficulty? Or whine and moan and rely on the taxpayers of their fellow citizens to give them free schit when times get tough?

Again, too many sitting in the wagon. Too few pulling it now.

Damn. Grab a shovel, get a job.

Disgraceful.

150% correct sir.

JDT - it is the hypocrisy of all of this that is enraging. Places like Harvard, who preach the liberal mantra all the time, are now screwing over the same people they feel should be treated the same as everyone else and propped up by the rich. Last time I checked, Harvard classifies as one of the rich.

If you are going to criticize every syllable out of Trumps pie-hole, then you should be critical of all equally.
