"You've got to understand that you don't make the timeline, the virus makes the timeline," Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease specialist, said on CNN on Wednesday. "So you've got to respond in what you see happen. And if you keep seeing this acceleration, it doesn't matter what you say. One week, two weeks, three weeks -- you've got to go with what the situation on the ground is."

No one knows where this is going...

But all we are doing is slowing it right now so our health care system can handle it.

If this is going to cyclical as Fauci has eluded to a vaccine needs to be found or the only people who will be safe next year are the 600k that got it this year.

I personally believe that a whole lot more than 600k has contracted it this year. So many people show no symptoms and would have no reason to even bother getting tested. I would personally say the same math they use for the common flu. They estimate it based off how many confirmed cases they have. 600k would be 60mil if you use the same math as the flu.

I'm a little less positive--wondering which virus might hit next year or if this one will mutate to a new strain that will once again require the development of new antibodies.

I wouldn't mind a booster supplement/injection that would send the body into a flexible hyper-drive state--one in which the human body would create its own anitbodies for any invading pathogen. That might drive the Pharmaceutical companies under, though. lol

Newt and his wife are stuck in Italy

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his wife, Calista, the US ambassador to the Vatican, have been trapped in Italy while under lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report.

“Italy is a very sobering experience,” Gingrich told Fox 5 New York. “Everything is closed down. The only thing that is open are grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations.”

About 70,000 people have been infected by COVID-19 in Italy, which has been under a nationwide lockdown for two weeks. On Wednesday, the country reported 5,210 new cases and 683 deaths.

“They have very strict rules about walking or driving. If you don’t have a good reason to be doing it, you can be fined $8,000. They’ve really gone all-out to get ahead of the virus,” said the onetime candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.

It seems there are many problems with testing...all over the world.

Spain, Europe's worst-hit country after Italy, says coronavirus tests it bought from China are failing to detect positive cases

The Spanish newspaper El País reported that microbiologists found that tests it bought from a Chinese company called Bioeasy could correctly identify virus cases only 30% of the time.

Health authorities have been told that the tests should not be used, and the head of Spain's health-emergency coordination center said they would be returned, El País reported.

The Chinese Embassy in Spain said that the Bioeasy tests were not part of China's medical donations and that the firm didn't have a license to sell its products.

We don't want this to happen here. That's why we stay at home, imo

The Spanish medical system is going under smh

Spanish docs are being having to make agonizing life-or-death decisions about who gets admitted as coronavirus cases overwhelm the country’s health care system, according to a report.

Dr. Daniel Bernabeu, who works at Madrid’s La Paz hospital, said new guidelines encourage doctors to prioritize giving rooms to younger patients instead of older ones, Bloomberg reported.

“That grandpa, in any other situation, would have had a chance,” Bernabeu told the outlet. “But there’s so many of them, all dying at the same time.”

we need home testing...

wait for it....

U.K. Trials Coronavirus-Immunity Tests for Home Use
The tests, if successful, would ease disruptions and lockdowns, but some experts have doubts. Plus they aren't available yet.

So Chris Cuomo on the 24th goes on the air and insists that Trump is saying that he wants everything to start up by Easter and that it's crazy (which it probably is), and goes on a rant about it.

Then on the 25th Cuomo interviews Fauci, and asks him a bunch of questions. It's a really good interview and Fauci is largely hopeful on many fronts; including NYC and NYC hospitals being able to handle things when there is a spike. HE DOES NOT ASK FAUCI SPECIFICALLY ABOUT TRUMP'S EASTER TIMELINE. .

IF Cuomo would have asked Fauci about Trump's Easter timeline as Fox News did, it would have greatly helped to alleviate at least a little bit of the worry that most have. Why didn't he???

Fauci calmly explains that Trump's timeline of Easter is aspirational and not rigid, that he is listening, is flexible, and that the timeline will change based on new data he receives every day.

Btw, Fauci also mentions that a MAJOR reason why Italy has gotten clobbered compared to the US is because they allowed travelers in from China, and also says that travelers from Europe contributed to it. So, anyone referencing Fauci as a source has to acknowledge that Trump closing off China and later Europe saved countless lives.

RE: [COVID-19 MEGATHREAD]
I was just reading some stuff on why Germany seems to be handing it so well and according to what I have been reading...

1. Germany is listing any deaths over the age of 75 as natural causes.
2. If someone dies because their heart stops with coronavirus, they list is as heart failure.

so, according to what I was reading, that is a couple of reasons why their mortality rate is so vastly different from everyone elses.

Welp that's one way to jiggle the stats.

Another is to only count the certified cases when people die.

Not everyone who died in China got tested for cv19 in China.

We are fixin to find out how bad/not bad it will be.

I don't know how anything could possibly be enforced, but when this is over, the Chinese government should have to pay between $5-15 trillion in reparations. If this case went to any kind of court anywhere in the world, that is what would happen. That is assuming that they didn't unleash it on purpose.

I saw where The Mayor of Tupelo Mississippi ordered everyone to work from home and got unanimous approval from his city council, but the Gov of Miss said get yo asses back to work. I'm in charge here.

That's wild stuff. Governor vs Mayor.

i’d be telling that governor to go piss up a rope.

All I have seen so far is the governor saying that the state wouldn't be run like a dictatorship, and encouraging everyone to work from home. I haven't seen a quote from him telling everyone to physically go back to their place of employment.

The sticking point it seems, is that he seems to be including virtually every business as an essential service.

EDIT:
Found it! 90 minutes of searching the entire internet and only one measly quote to back it up. I should have started there in the first place.

Quote:Rachel Maddow
“So take, for example, the beautiful city of Tupelo, Mississippi,” said Maddow. “Birthplace of Elvis Presley, right? World famous. On Saturday, the mayor of Tupelo, Mississippi, ordered a stay-at-home order for that city. He banned gatherings of more than ten people. He ordered nonessential businesses to shut in Tupelo … yesterday, the city council in Tupelo met and in a unanimous bipartisan vote, they voted to affirm and ratify those rules that the mayor put in place in Tupelo. But today, the governor of Mississippi superseded that. Today, the governor of Mississippi said Tupelo and any other city or town in the state can’t do anything like that. Only his rules apply.”

There are dozens of sources where the governor explicitly says that the state isn't going to be run like a dictatorship like China; which directly contradicts Maddow, and he calls her statement "a dangerous lie."

Google Sources For Governor Saying Mississippi Would NOT Be Run Like a Dictatorship:
Axios
USNews.com
Business Insider
MSNBC (not Maddow)
Fox News
CNN
Clarion Ledger
Washington Post
Dozens of others

What Reeves said was that he encouraged people to work from home, was not ordering businesses to shut down, and was NOT overriding anyone in any town or city. Cities and towns in Mississippi including Tupelo have set their own guidelines without interference from the governor and without incident.

This is obviously a major difference from the governor telling everyone that they had to go to their place of employment to work and his orders superseded everyone else's. In my opinion Maddow was either misinformed or lying. Of course, people are free to believe what they want and draw their own conclusions.

One last thing on this just in case anyone thinks I am taking one side because of political leanings. I think Reeves is an idiot for not ordering everyone to stay home.

As she said, everyone has their own agenda.

I have family members in Tupelo . My father was born and raised in Ingamar Mississippi right outside New Albany . My grandparents, aunts and uncles are buried there. My first cousin lives nearby. He is a musician who was formerly a medic in Vietnam. I lived in Mississippi for weeks during the Summer. Does my family’s agenda count?

Just for future agenda reference, I follow what’s happening in the following states because my family lives there too: Washington State, Florida, New York , Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, California and of course Tennessee .
