RE: 2020-2021 Basketball Schedule
Assuming we have a season. Given his battle with prostate cancer, if we don’t have a vaccine for COVID by the time b-ball season starts, I can’t see JJs family or doctor allowing him to coach. He’s a part of the population that really can’t afford to get it and his health is much more important than any game. Hoping for JJ’s and everyone else’s sake we have one by then.

So for those of us who wonder what a Bryant Stith-coached team would be like, I think we're about to find out, because there's no way in hell we'll have a vaccine ready for public consumption by November.

I wouldnt be opposed to that. Almost like we can "try it before we buy it".

Here's hoping for Stith's sake that he's not another Pete Gaudet.

Having said that, Coach Jones would still be heavily involved, especially in schemes and practice so I'm not sure if its really a great indication. Yes, we could see what he does in game coaching wise, that thats really a small part of being a head coach.

I don't think it'll be a Coach K in '95 situation but if he's not going to be on the sidelines all season, which would be a reasonable presumption as of now, I wonder if he would perhaps step back more to allow Stith to run the show. It's one thing to be out for a couple of games, but having a practice HC and a gameday HC for an entire season could be tricky.

Travel to western twice? Why is that? Seems the home slate easier than away slate unfortunately.

We get WKU at home on Dec. 31.
I overall like the conference schedule. If we play well enough during the season, such that the final road trip is meaningful, we get to earn our way into a highly seeded berth.
If we do not play well enough during the season for that final road trip to be meaningful to us, we get the chance to be spoilers for fan bases that will absolutely hate us if we manage to eff up their seasons.
Looking forward to November!

I wouldn't expect drastic differences between the 2. Mabye some different play calls during the game (running same plays tho) and some different timeouts. But, I wouldn't expect much difference other than that.

Just an fyi. JMU has games this year with Georgia Tech, Virginia, and Florida. It can be done...

Harder to be done if the P5 actually thinks it will be a close game.

By that logic ODU should not have had any problems compared to JMU in scheduling them. JMU defeated ODU last season - at ODU.

It sure can, if you don't mind playing multiple P5 road games (the UVa game is part of a 2-for-1 and my uneducated guess is that it coordinates with the first season of the new arena, and that it'll be a while before the Cavs visit again). They're also playing three games against non-D1 opponents — Bridgewater, something called Bryn Athlyn and something called Clarks Summit. So that can be done, too.

One game makes a team better than another? Transitive property would certainly become a headache then
JMU: 9-21, rank 311 in kenpom
ODU: 13-19, rank 171 in kenpom
You tell me which one P5 are going to schedule for a guarantee win. Perhaps factor in a Syracuse upset. Not sure when the last time JMU had a P5 win, if ever.

You missed the point. Neither of those schools with their records of 9-21 and 13-19 is anyone that Georgia Tech, Virginia, or Florida is going to fear scheduling. And yes, that JMU defeated ODU in Norfolk only adds to that fact - two bad teams that no big conference decent team fears.

Smart ones would pick ODU because they know they can beat a 13-19 CUSA team without taking the NET hit that JMU at 311 would give them.

Well, we're not opening the season with Penn. Ivy League won't play sports until Jan. 1 at the earliest.

Wow. Hadn't thought about this virus mess screwing up basketball season too. This sucks.

Theoretically, they could reschedule the game for the Thursday before either of the Charlotte games, but there's also probably going to be a lot more rescheduling and cancelling happening between now and whenever the season begins (or if). Moving Virginia Wesleyan to Penn's place in the schedule would give them some flexibility in finding a replacement, if by some miracle nothing else changes.
