2020-2021 Basketball Schedule
Confirmed:
v. VCU
@ Arkansas

Strong start to the OOC schedule. Arkansas will be borderline top 25, VCU is coming off of a down year and should be middle of the pack in the A10.

Any word on an early-season tournament? I imagine some of the stalwarts (Mason, JMU, W&M, etc.) would be added to the schedule. Getting Richmond would be solid as they are going to be a hyped borderline top 25 team going into the year after their strong end to this season.

Any chance that Arkansas game is a home and home deal?

I think Richmond is as solidly on the schedule as VCU. A couple of years ago they changed the road-home orientation of the series to ensure that either UR or VCU would be at the Ted every season. I don’t see that changing any time soon. Ditto W&M. I think this year ODU visits JMU in its new arena.

RE: 2020-2021 Basketball Schedule
So right now it's most likely:

VCU
W&M
@Richmond
@Arkansas
@George Mason
@JMU

Nothing official about an early-season tournament and it looks like most of the fields are filled. I thought someone here said something about Myrtle Beach but their field is set.

I thought I heard ODU was moving away from those tournaments in order to have more control of their schedule.

Arent those tournaments the best way to get P5s on a neutral court? Its been a while since we've had one come to the Ted too. I do like the way next season's OOC schedule is looking so far though. At Ark, at JMU and at Richmond will be tough, but if we are going to be as good next season as a lot of us hope, those are the types of games we need to win. At least we have the sheep at home. Gotta win that one.

Aren't the in-season tournaments treated as incentives for players and people in the program? Gotta be tough if the most exotic trip ODU makes is the FIU/FAU swing. Most programs can manage their schedule with a tournament, not sure why ODU couldn't. Plus you get fewer games because one three-game, eight-team exempt tournament counts for a date, though I think the rules are being tweaked for next season.

But I'm sure they have their reasons.

I wouldn't be surprised if the women's program moved away from that type of tournament to try and focus on the Anne Donovan Classic. But I have no sources and this is all speculation.

The women are playing in the Junkanoo Jam next year.

Don't mean to nitpick but @JMU will not be tough. Just because they beat us last year does not mean they are good. They finished 311 in kenpom this year and are losing two of their best players to the transfer portal.

Early season tournament?

Would love to replace the annual UMES/Howard game with someone like St. Joes, GW, etc.

We need as many UMES and Howards as possible next year. JMU is a 50/50 game and I don't see any other wins on that list.

If that's true, replace the UMES and Howards with P5s and take our lumps. I would rather see a record that reflects who we really are.

Pretty sure that @JMU was confirmed when news of the 2-and-1 broke. ODU's road game coincided with the first season of JMU's new arena. Richmond I feel confident is on the same indefinite cycle as VCU and W&M based on their reorienting the series to play UR on the road in consecutive seasons a few years ago with the idea being that they'd go to Richmond once a year and host a Richmond team once a year.

Presuming that holds, four road games and three home games with an indeterminate number of dates to fill pending an early-season tournament.

RE: 2020-2021 Basketball Schedule
There was supposed to be a new tournament (ESPN sponsored) in Dublin. We were slated to play in it. The whole tourney got scraped with BREXIT dragging on...worries about visas for foreign players etc. They decided to go for a foreign summer tour instead (like when they went to Greece and Italy?). I've heard our next November tournaments are Myrtle Beach and back to Charleston. But, I don't remember which order....except it will be 2021 and 2022.
