RE: WBB Coaching Search for Villanova
I agree about Hollie being more rounded than Bailey. But the only time we broke through we had enough of a post presence (Hale and Cornish (yes I know she was tall but not physical). We had size on that team (4 players over 6' with Nicole and Kamile just under 6'). Not sure we have had that type of size since. In fact, size is why JMU has given us so many fits and why its hard in the womens game to compete against the top teams.

We had a senior Hester (grinder) and senior Petey (facilitator). On top we had Gabi and sharpshooter Rosseel, with freshman Nacickaite giving us relief shooting off the bench. We had a lot of offense. Obviously some of those younger players turned really good in the years after, but that was an extremely talented bunch with some really strong senior leadership. That team is very similar to the mens team of 2012 where all of the stars reasonably aligned. The difference was the women broke through and the men didnt.

The team in 2013 also had quite a bit of size, which helped them capture that WNIT title. In the women's game size means a lot, if you have not gotten that message from this post. You have to have at least 2 good scorers and you do need size to compete down low (otherwise it ends up a layup line for the other team). The recent teams need a true shooter to help out to overcome their lack of size. So going all in on defense, when you lack size, is a smart move. Balance is nice, but you need the pieces to do so, and we dont have those pieces currently, nor did we the past couple of years. Hopefully Amy can get some bigger bodies and we can get more balance back again
