Boom or bust hire. I like it, though. I think his demons are mostly behind him. The question is whether his health will hold up.

Because news stations around central Texas just reported he got it.

BCG has strong Texas ties. You gotta make splashes when youre making a move to D1 or a new conference.

I like this

RE: Looking for a new Head Basketball Coach
I'm late to this thread. But, I just found the WAC's podcasts and been listening to them. On the April 21, 2020 podcast, they interviewed Lonn Reisman. He talked about hiring Billy Gillispie, and forgetting that Gillispie is a drunk and treated his players like crap, Reisman said one main reason for his hiring is because of his experience in the WAC, at UTEP. That statement is BS. The WAC that Gillispie was in, is nothing like the WAC he will coach this year. Not one school currently in the WAC, was in the WAC when he was at UTEP.

RE: Looking for a new Head Basketball Coach
BCG started out his head coaching career strong with success at UTEP and Texas A&M. It wasn't until he took the job at Kentucky that his personal and professional (coaching) life started to unravel. Whether you like Gillispie or not, he has proven to be a winner on the court. I think because of the collapse in his coaching career and the subsequent health issues, he has recently gotten his personal life back in order; only time will tell. But there is no denying, he was very successful at Ranger JC in the interim as he has tried to rebuild his reputation. With regards to his prior experience in the WAC, I think Reisman is eluding to Gillipies familiarity with the grinds of a conference like the WAC (budget, travel, regional recruiting) and building a winning program at the mid major level. He flipped UTEP's program in two season. It might take him a little longer to build up Tarleton State. But then again, the WAC competition is not as tough this go-around.

I think 3 or 4 years. That said there's a reason I don't play the lottery.

The new Aquatic Center has been announced and should be completed sometime in 21. Then let’s see what happens with Wisdom.

A leopard doesn't change his/her spot. See Nikita Lowry Dawkins- treated players like crap at New Mexico St., then Minnesota, and finally Texas Tech!

That being said, hopefully that POS has worked on his addiction. Would it surprise me if he got a DUI before his contract runs out at TSU, not one bit!

Not sure how someone could be a POS when they have to battle addiction/ substance abuse every day...

Someone mistreating others like you brought up with Nikita Lowry Dawkins isn't the same thing as substance abuse.

Interesting characterization of a guy that has won everywhere he's been. Most legit P'sOS can't get kids to play all-out for them. Tough and demanding coach with a very public past? Yes. POS? That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it. Just do your neighbors a favor and shower in the basement of that glass house you live in.

I personally love a great comeback story, and a sober, healthy, uber-focused BCG has all the makings of the "comeback story of all comeback stories", as BCG put it. An under-the-radar D1 basketball school like Tarleton is literally the best place on Earth he could be right now. Nobody is judging his past, only fully supporting our high hopes for the future. But really, the bottom line is the guy can flat out recruit and coach basketball. He has also been humbled (again, very publicly), is back home where he grew up, and hungry for redemption. And, he has the great Lonn Reisman backing him. Indeed, BCG is in a very good place and we're happy to have him. You may think he's a POS, but he's our POS, and we stand by him 100%.

I'm not *exactly* saying your opinion doesn't matter, but here's a friendly reminder of what his peers think about him:

Rumor has it that the Chancellor and Prez made the Gillespie hire. Lonn wanted Hooten.

Rumor, indeed.

True, a Reisman-Hooten reunion would have gone over VERY well in Stephenville, had BCG not been available.

Non-rumor (aka fact): When Chris Reisman stepped aside, he and Lonn both recommended to the Prez they should pursue BCG. Maybe Hooten was No. 2 on the list, and that would make a ton of sense

To your point, with Hooten as HC, Lonn could have continued being HC as he did while Chris was “coach”.

Rumor, indeed.

My understanding was that big-money Texan Club members wanted Chris gone. Naturally all of that is second hand, albeit reliable.
