UAB Basketball: Why Andy Kennedy is the perfect hire for the Blazers
https://bustingbrackets.com/2020/03/23/u...e-blazers/
Quote:His fit in Birmingham should be ideal. For starters, he might be the most established head coach to ever take over at UAB during this stage of his career. Gene Bartow spent a couple of years at UCLA before taking over with the Blazers and Mike Davis flamed out at Indiana before heading to Birmingham, but nobody with Kennedy’s track record has taken over the job before.
Kennedy is also an alum of the school, which should make it easier to build excitement around the program. He actually didn’t begin his collegiate career with the Blazers, starting with the NC State Wolfpack instead. But after transferring to UAB, he averaged 18.8 points per game during his last three seasons, becoming a star.
Recruiting will be a big part of Kennedy’s job at UAB and Ehsan was kind enough to give him a head start. The team’s only signed letter of intent for the Class of 2020 comes from power forward Rongie Gordon, but according to 247 Sports, that’s enough to make it Conference USA’s best recruiting class so far.

Did he just say AK is more established than GB was when he got to UAB?

The full quote was finished with "in this stage of his career". I take from that to mean comparing with the Bartow of Memphis or the school in Indiana, not the finished product who moved here from UCLA.

He said”nobody with Andy Kennedy’s track record has ever taken over the UAB program.” Coach bartows track record far exceeds coach Kennedy’s. I hope when this is done the opposite is true.

I hope that's what was meant, because otherwise the writer comes off as an idiot.
I'm more and more excited by this hire and looking forward to the future for UAB basketball for the first time in a long time.

lets say thats what he meant..."at this stage of his career"...AK has been a head coach 13 seasons
after 13 season, GB...
won almost 70% of his games in 3 seasons at Central Missouri State
went to 2 NCAA tournament 2nd rounds in 6 season at Valparaiso
was at Memphis State 4 seasons, going to an NCAA championship game
(and in there coached the Puerto Rico national team at the Olympics)
that enough makes his assessment seem shady...
but he went on to say "Gene Bartow spent a couple of years at UCLA", which leads me to believe that he's including those years (which include another sweet 16 and final 4)...
and then after acknowledging the UCLA years, he says "but nobody with Kennedy’s track record has taken over the job before."
I mean...Im excited about HCAK...but...come on

Ok you swayed me, that's pretty bad. The writer is either bloviating, an idiot, or both.

Then the recruiting part of the story. Our # 1 c-USA standing in recruiting is based off of two players. One of which sign with UC-Irvine in the fall.

Gene Bartow was the coach who followed John Wooden at UCLA. That's substantially different from "spent a couple of years there".
