Joe Foley - National Champion
Some might be interested in seeing current Little Rock coach Joe Foley where he started his head coaching career in 1987. He and two players are interviewed about the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns National Championships in 1992 and 1993. The video is split into four parts but totals only about 24 minutes. I can't believe we are approaching the 30th anniversary of these back-to-back championships.

Arkansas Tech Golden Suns: National Champions pt.2

Arkansas Tech Golden Suns: National Champions pt.3

Not really. Arkansas Tech has two distinct nicknames for the men's and women's teams. Our men's teams have been the Wonder Boys for 100 years. It comes from our football victory in 1919 over what is now Arkansas State. The original nickname is Aggies. When women's sports were added their original nickname of Wonderettes was hated so much it was quickly changed to Golden Suns. Jerry the Bulldog is our mascot and his history traces back to the 1930s. So, men are Wonder Boys while women are Golden Suns and we all love Jerry.

He nearly took the AState job then backed out. Commuted from Russellville to LR for a few years.

Foley is the dream of most G5 fans. A coach more concerned with where he lives than hitting the coaching powerball. Rumor mill says he’s spurned interest from regional schools now in AAC, B12, and SEC. Only school he might have left for (Arkansas) supposedly never entertained the idea of hiring him.

I had the opportunity to watch those teams play. I knew they were phenomenal, but hearing Foley say they would have been good on any level is quite a compliment. Those ladies were winners on and off the court.
