RE: Hidden figures: Students paying thousands in athletic fees and not knowing it
"This practice"? You don't get to pay for a division 1 university a la carte beyond tuition/room board/meal plan. JMU is a great deal. Newsflash: "this practice" ending would not result in a cheaper tuition bill for your student. If you think JMU "hid" anything, you're a fool. If readily-available information is hidden, then yeah I guess so. This happens every 7-8 years where some student acts like they've uncovered some super-secret scam & a hungry newspaper prints an article feigning ignorance.

Agreed.
I say it every time this topic comes up (every few months) parents and students care about the bottom line.....not every single line item that adds up to the bottom line. And JMU is a bargain compared to their peers (in this example their peers being every other state school in VA).
JMU is consistently one of the least expensive 4 year state colleges in Virginia.
It begs the questions, WTF are the other schools doing to fleece money then.....

I’d argue based on the Learfield rankings that measure the strength of D1 athletics programs that JMU students are getting good value for their fees- whether they take advantage of it or take advantage of other amenities included in their tuition (Urec, Library, etc) is up to them.
