cornyns utter hypocrisy
cornyn writing an op ed last year:
"Festivals and roundups all across the state showcase daredevil handlers performing bold and dangerous acts, demonstrations of milking the venomous snakes to produce the antidote, and fryers filled with fresh rattlesnake meat seasoned with garlic and lemon for taste."

https://www.news-journal.com/opinion/cor...ab101.html

cornyn providing cover for for donny:
"China is to blame... because the culture where people eat bats and snakes and dogs and things like that."

RE: cornyns utter hypocrisy
Big difference between one-timers eating and wet markets there sparkles. Seemingly those types of operations are a perfect environment for zoonotic mixing -- as if the Chinese government didnt learn that with SARS. Instead, they went lock, stock, and two smoking barrels into becoming the preeminent lead in offering the best of farm to table pathogens.

Seriously, a wet market by itself kind of has the same level of pathogenic risk as an 'all you can partake brothel' that bans any protection and any medical checkups by the participants.

I suggest you look up the operations of the Wuhan market, and then comment.

Must be something about Texas politicians. Dan Patrick just said we can't survive a shutdown of more than 3 months, but grandparents would be willing to die for their grandkids if it comes to that.

Learn to use periods instead of commas, moron. When you get to the plateau of being able to type full sentences at the quality level of a left side of the bell curve 2nd grader, perhaps you will be taken a tad more seriously.

Dan Patrick is in a class of insanity all his own. Good to know he has volunteered as tribute to restart the economy

What actual words did he say?

Not a big fan of his, but I want to know exactly what words he said, not some paraphrase.

You can see some of the interview there. Tucker Carlson doesn't have the whole interview up on his site yet.

A couple of the sound bytes that are getting the most twitter response.

"No one reached out to me and said, 'As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?' And if that is the exchange, I'm all in."

That doesn’t make me noble or brave or anything like that. I just think there are lots of grandparents out there in this country like me."

"I want to live smart and see through this, but I don’t want the whole country to be sacrificed."

“My message is that let’s get back to work. Let’s get back to living. Let’s be smart about it,” Patrick told Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “And those of us who are 70 plus, we’ll take care of ourselves. But don’t sacrifice the country.”

Those are some of the quotes. He said more. He implied that a 3-month shutdown would destroy the country.

He's not the only politician (or person) making stupid comments. Neither party has a monopoly on that right now.

A 3 month shutdown would undoubtedly destroy the economy of this country. Do you really think a 3 month 'frozen to essentially zero' wouldnt do that?

Sorry, that particular statement really is not a 'stupid comment', implied or otherwise.

People would be hurt economically, but no it wouldn't destroy the country IMO. Goldman Sachs the other day predicted a 24 percent drop of the GDP in the 2nd quarter which obviously is massive, but I believe they predicted a gain by the 3rd and 4th quarters so it would be a brief recession/downturn.

I'd be more curious to see how the 70-year-olds on this site feel about Patrick's comments. Maybe they want him to be their spokesman, but I suspect that's not the case.

Anyone who thinks that a 3 month vacay for 50%+ of the economy will be quickly recovered is seriously deluded. We are already screwed...not sure this is recoverable.

Im actually more intrigued by your characterization that a 'freeze in place' zero level economy for three months as 'destroying the economy' is a 'stupid comment'.

RE: cornyns utter hypocrisy
It does seem a little over-the-top to be referring to what is essentially a difference of opinion on something that has never happened before as a 'stupid comment'.

The shut down of the economy is about far more than GDP. It's about us going from 3% unemployment to 20% or more overnight, with no savings. I've said before... if there is one scenario under which an economic plan fails, expect the markets to test that theory... and this is it, as related to the deficit. Fortunately? (I mean as a counter to the worst case) This is impacting the entire world and not just the US.... but LOTS of things are changing already. UBI, government guaranteeing loans and businesses. Lots of things that have been used as stop-gaps now being seen (I forget the leftist commentator's quote, but it was along the lines of) to fundamentally change the nation into what we want it to be

The word 'destroy' is yours and you're speaking only of the economy. I read your quotes and I see him talking about 'sacrifice' in terms of 'the greatest generation'... A nation that many of these people or their parents quite literally fought and died for. I'm not yet 70, but I know many who would agree with him.... and all he said was there were lots of people like that... and there are.

So he is someone who clearly has a very different viewpoint from yours and you all but vilify him for it?

I am 74, so old enough to vote on this matter.

I think Patrick's statements were inartfully stated. But largely I agree with his statements. But the choice will not be made in that matter, so it is moot. The better choice to keep alive and fight for my grandchildren's future in every way I can. Which is why I am here, fighting the takeover of the Progresive Socialists, he ones trying to take advantage of the crisis.

I would rather have Patrick as a spokeperson for me than Pelosi or Schumer. I would rather have about 10,000,000 other people as my spokesperson than Patrick. Numbers, Tanq, and Ham come to mind. With all due respect, you don't. I sure don't need AOC or the Alzheimer's patient. But for now, I speak for myself. I am not a party parrot.

I find it odd that you would NOT give your life for your children/grandchildren. Luckily, that is not a choice to be made for either of us.

RE: cornyns utter hypocrisy
Well Trump seemed to back off a bit from his 7 day musings from yesterday. He's now saying he's hopeful things can get closer to back to normal by Easter Sunday. That's 19 days away.

OO, I'm already ostensibly putting my life on the line for my kids (I have no grandkids). Although I think my current sacrifice pales greatly in comparison to first responders and all medical personnel. And also any military members from our nation's history.

We don't have anyone at our office who is showing symptoms or has complained about not feeling well. It will be interesting to see if that changes. I'll keep you guys posted if it does (and if I can share any details which may not be possible).

I don't think any of us will be forced to make a choice between our lives and our descendant's lives. Save that for war with other people. It basically is a hypothetical, not likely to be seen in reality.

But grandparents make a lot of sacrifices for their grandkids, just as parents make a lot for their kids. Are you not taking a risk when you go to work so your kids can avoid taking that risk? If somebody needs to get groceries, do you go or do you send the kids? Women and children first is not as hokey as some would say. I am sure that if there was no more room in the lifeboat, you and I would both be on the outside, making room for our loved ones.

I think way too much was taken of a way too literal interpretation of some badly worded statements. Kind of like when Biden praised the Indian working at the convenience store.

The funny thing is that in conversations I had today, what is being repeated is the paraphrase. Not what he said. Kind of like in this thread, apparently.

whats wrong with the paraphrase?

"I turn 70 next week, Tucker… so I'm automatically in the high-risk group…. And you know, Tucker, no one reached out to me and said 'As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that America loves for its children and grandchildren?’ And if that is the exchange, I’m all in. And that doesn't make me noble or brave or anything like that... but I don't want the whole country to be sacrificed.... "
https://www.easttexasmatters.com/health/...ourselves/

hes saying hell risk his survival to save america for his grandchildren. isnt that what fortendowl said?

of course patrick screws it up at the end of the interview because he says hell seek treatment if he needs it. thats a problem,,, sick elderly with very little chance of recovery are going to take up beds and overwhelm the system AND get drs/nurses sick. thats where we really end up in the ****. but im sure if the time comes hell understand the REAL sacrifice is to leave the resources for people who can use em.

and thats cool, death panels are a touchy subject so WAAY better when its voluntary. it's very noble and the ECONOMY thanks you!!!! ill make signup list if yall want.
