Elijah Hughes leaving Syracuse for NBA draft
https://nba.nbcsports.com/2020/03/22/eli...nba-draft/
Quote:Syracuse wing Elijah Hughes announced that he’s declaring for the 2020 NBA Draft.

Hughes is leaving the Orange after two years with one season of eligibility left. He had transferred to Syracuse in 2017 after playing his freshman season at East Carolina.

Most draft analysts have Hughes tabbed as a mid-to-late second-round pick. ESPN has him at 57 on their top-100 list.

I cant blame the kid. I hope he has what it takes to make it in the NBA. Seems like he does. So who is going to be the go to guy at SU next season, if there is a next season? They lost 3 good players to transfer. No quality depth at the guard position.

Barring the emergence of a top level recruit, seems like Quincy Guerrier is likely to take the starting spot. I think we'll be looking for Dolezaj to pick up some of the offensive burden. I expect Robert Braswell (F) and Kadary Richmond (G) to get significant minutes off the bench.

Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but Hughes departure seems to be another example of a kid leaving too early. Seems like he'll end up on the bench somewhere in the NBA or, worse, in the G-League like Tyus Battle. Staying another year at Syracuse, where he could contribute to an NCAA tourney run, would seem like a better choice.

Devin Vassell just declared. He is expected to be selected in the 10-20 pick range. Would be a good “3 and D” guy in the NBA.

Elijah is at best a late 2nd Round Pick. Makes no sense to leave.

Patrick Williams just declared. He leaves FSU after just 1 year and won the ACC 6th man award. Expected to be a late first round pick. He was the #40 overall high school recruit according to one of the recruiting rankings.

FSU is really starting to make a mark in the NBA with at least 5 currently in the league and up to 3 more in the next NBA draft.

Garrett, past the top 15 guys you can never believe the draft projections. Too many fluffed up projections. Usually there are 45-60 guys thinking they are going in the First Round.

The sad truth:. Every guy drafted gets two years to make the team...then they are usually cut loose for a vagabond life of G League and international leagues.

Yep. I met a former NBA player while doing some volunteer work at the men's homeless shelter once. Very sad.

Mark - the last 4 Seminoles that declared early for the NBA draft were first rounders. And of course guessing the draft position is a crap shoot.
