Looks like he started the past two games for Ohio after being cleared right before the start of the season. Vs weak competition his box score shows him contributing good numbers, but the season is young.

Wilson with some nice stats in a two point loss to top 10 Illinois

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
Wilson was very effective in the paint and a hard worker. It’s nice to see him doing well on what looks to be a solid Ohio U team. I wonder if he’s playing the 4 or 5 there. He was a below the rim undersized 5 at JMU. I thought he would have been better as a traditional 4 but these days there aren’t usually two low post guys. On the defensive end he sometimes struggled against good bigs that had more height. He also wasn’t really equipped to play up and down. Definitely a quality high percentage offensive low post guy and good for 20-25 minutes a game though.

in an absolutely stunning exhibition, richey puts up 10

https://samfordsports.com/sports/mens-ba...core/11609

its less impressive when you find out that samford scored 174 points, and greenville turned over the ball 41 times.

One player had 10 turnovers!

In their first D1 game I didn’t see that he played.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
Btw I asked Shane about all the waivers for JMU. When everyone is healthy that’s a lot of guys to juggle minutes with and the freshmen all look to be in the mix so the thought was that they should have red shirted some of these transfers. He said that based on the rules with this season that it doesn’t matter in that the guys get an extra year of eligibility. Am I to interpret this to mean that Mensah, Hodge, And Taylor will get another 2 years at JMU if they choose to after this one due to the Covid rules? If so there is no downside to them not taking a red shirt and guys like Banks Parker etc who are on red shirt kind of get hosed no?

I think we will see transfers at years end. The new recruits will likely be better than some of the transfers.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
Coach By gave some insight on the transfers in today’s press conference
Fredericks - when he gets healthy he is going to bring a lot
Hodge - he is the best shooter on the team
Morse - likes him because he can dribble, pass, and shoot.
Taylor - he wants to play him more. Didn’t think he would get a transfer waiver and then was behind when he Finally did. Also, he is moving from a bigger playing style to Coach By’s Small Ball where he even thinks he could play “center” for the Dukes.
Mensah - no discussion on him.

He talked about trying to find minutes for everyone and we have touched on that Topic some already this year even before the full complement of players is available. Lewis will get close to 40 minutes. The remaining 160 minutes will be divided by 10 or 11 players. He is using this OOC season as a proving ground to evaluate his players and then will tighten up the rotation for CAA play.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
When you think about it (captain obvious here) this is the year to have a lot of depth. I don’t remember a deeper JMU in recent memory and this is the season the depth will
Really come in handy. Short and choppy off season, Covid risk of losing guys to contract tracing or quarantine at any time , injuries, and also back to back games once we get into crucial conference play. The depth should also allow Coach B to play aggressive defense and fast paced offense.

I don’t think JMUs depth because so much was unknown was factored into the Caa predicted order of finish. I’d be surprised if there is a team in conference that can play 13 guys the way the Dukes can. This will really be an advantage for us in conference play. Tough to scout and game plan for so many guys too.

There is an article in the DNR today on this. Makes sense- it looks like from the transfers Morse and Fredericks when healthy will be immediate contributors while Taylor and Mensah make take some time to pay dividends.

Someone mentioned that you may see transfers next off season I’m not so sure of that from this group. My understanding is that they pushed for waivers because this season athletes get an extra year of eligibility. I’m not sure if these guys would risk transferring again and having to get another waiver and or having to take a red shirt. It’s probably more likely that they play this year and next and maybe grad transfer or just move on rather than using a final year of eligibility at JMU or somewhere else in 22-23.

Dwight Wilson and Ohio U continue to impress early this season. I read where in a game against Cleveland State this weekend (Rob Summers a former JMU assistant is the head assistant at Cleveland State) Ohio U went on a 40-0 run. I don’t care who bad the Vikings may be to do that against another D1 squad is very impressive.

Wilson has a lot of talent around him which hides his deficiencies on defense and makes it hard to double team him on offense. This allows him to do what he does best...use his soft touch to score up close.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
NCAA voted to grant immediate eligibility to all transfers this season so anyone who didn’t have a waiver can now start playing. I’m guessing we will start to see Parker at App State and Banks at Chattanooga.

Dwight Wilson seems to be doing well at Ohio. Leading the team in scoring and rebounding. Ohio is a contender in the Mac this year as well

A new day for me to say -

Coaching matters, it was never a talent issue.

Not sure which thread is best to post this in but some interesting notes from Coach B:

1) Mensah has been injured most of the season and was recently deactivated to take care of it. Coach B is still very high on him.
2) Rashad Fredericks was expected to be a starter at Small Forward but is no longer on the team
3) if things play out as scheduled currently, we will have 6 home conferences games and 8 road conference games. Coach B isn’t happy with that but says he’d rather focus on other things than what he can’t control.

Anyone know what happened with Fredericks?

Thought to be a starter, now just gone? Did he ever see the court for us at all?
