Sure this is the guy you want?

“UAB head coach Rob Ehsan released the following statement Monday afternoon:

On Sunday, Nov. 17, junior guard Zack Bryant was dismissed from the UAB men’s basketball program for conduct detrimental to the team. The UAB Department of Athletics wishes Zack the best of luck in his future endeavors and we remain focused on having a successful season.”

PS: guessing he’s already enrolled at GSU.

“ Notes: Mid-year transfer from UAB, who will compete for the Eagles in 2020-21.”

If Banks wants to leave, good luck to him! He was awful this past season. Like others have said, another program is going to have to invest 2 years in a guy for one year of play, although transfer rules could be changing. Either that or they have enough credits to graduate. That's not easy to do.

JMU has one Verbal and the kid says he still wants to come to JMU, depending on the hire, I'm sure. He's an athletic big.

If Banks leave, there are at least two openings (depending on whether they honor the verbal). Open scholarship plus Banks.

I'd like to see Christmas, Wooden and Harvey stay. Christmas will have a lot of opportunities. Hopefully he stays.

2 and 17 and they should be playing at a higher level? That's pretty funny.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
Nobody is perfect in terms of saying and doing the right thing 100% of the time- let along college aged kids. Folks will point to the one quote and the flirtations with bigger schools- the reality is these kids conducted themselves well during Rowe's tenure and I expect that will continue with the guys in our program under the new coach. They played hard it just obviously didn't work out on the court. The on the court success should be better under new coaching.

If the guys in the program want to be part of it cool. If they decide that a change is better for them I respect that as well. They all have ability but no one player is bigger than the team or the program. I'm not sure if the way the season and school year ended will lead to more transfers or less - it was prevalent to begin with now the kids are all home with a lot of time on their hands yet on the other side they can't really visit the schools be recruited or speak face to face with coaches so for some there may be a level of uncertainty. It will be interesting to see how it plays out because it's not a normal off season and you have a coaching change as well.

I don’t think Matt’s quote is much of anything to dump on him for. He certainly could’ve chosen his words much, much better but it was an attempt to defend his coach and take the blame on himself and his teammates. If he words it better then guys start playing smarter and harder he comes out of that looking like a great leader.

I do think it shows loyalty to Lou and that a lot of them have the mindset that they could play at a higher level though, which is why it’s part of what makes me think we might see a pretty high number of transfers and especially made me think we’d lose one of Banks or Lewis.

Kinda ballsy to say you-teammates belong at a higher level when the AD has to schedule Eastern Mennonite to get a win and you are losing to #300 Elon.

As i've said before, guys leaving off a losing team is not bad for new coach. these guys may have loved Rowe, but the certainly did not buy in or produce for him. We won 2 caa games, no loss with guys leaving. Those that stay need to buy in 100 percent and will be rewarded for staying.

A 6'8 215 guy is not a "big." We need a guy with some size in order to actually compete.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
We've had a zillion 6'8" 220 guys over the years. I've been following JMU basketball since the Convo's 1st year. Other than Denzel Bowles, I can't remember one guy taller than 6'8" that was a much of an offensive threat (other than a game here and there). Am I missing anyone? I remember James Coleman played pretty good defense and could rebound, but we didn't look for him to score. And Caskill was a steady 6 & 6 guy each game. It's like a threshold we can't break, even though other CAA teams can get a contributor at 6'9", 6'10" or 6'11" on occasion.

Boozer and Strickland had their moments but very Difficult for JMU over the years to get a productive true big.

I hate to see any Duke xfer but...if it happens fresh faces are welcome too, especially if a face is 6'11, has not had 15 knee surgeries, does not weigh 165 pds. and is not a past and future criminal.

And now that I think about it, doesn't that kind of throw the coach under the bus? If the team had so many players able to play at a higher level, what else do you blame the poor performance on?

Oppenheimer is the father of Matt’s girlfriend. Oppenheimer is now unemployed. If he goes to another college, does Matt follow him? Does his daughter?

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
Wasn't Oppenheimer between jobs when Coach Rowe convinced him to take the open JMU assistant job? Not sure how women's hoops works but His daughter already used a red shirt.

Also just a hunch- Matt Lewis was mentioned in the Press release announcing Coach Byington's hiring as the leading returnee on the roster. I'm not saying Matt Lewis was consulted as part of the hiring process but Jeff Bourne spoke today about some of the challenges around the timeline (due to corona) and how they expected to have this completed earlier and were very conscious of the time between coaches and keeping the current student athletes engaged. Coach Byington also spoke openly about Darius Banks- wanting to re-recruit him and the priority to re-recruit all of the current players. Just a guess but if Lewis is mentioned in the press release my sense if that they already have his buy in in terms of staying with JMU. I could be wrong and kids are fickle but again I think he returns to go out a winner and 2000+ point scorer. I don't think Oppenheimer's daughter is going to transfer from JMU if her Father isn't an assistant there. She transferred to JMU when her Father had no connection to JMU.

I think Byington will try his best to keep everyone and the player who has already verbaled, but if he loses a couple, I don't think it's going to hurt his feelings too much. Granted, it's already probably too late to really do any recruiting, but I bet he wouldn't mind having a shot at finding at least one of his own recruits to come to his new school. Having at least one open spot to try to bring in a true big or a really solid PG would probably give him a little more confidence.

Looking at the recruits he landed for Georgia Southern on Verbal Commits - the guy can recruit. Pretty much every player had an impressive offer list. We’ll be good either way.

That is the kind of stuff that resonates w/ me.
Now, if he can show me these too, I'll be happy:
1) Demonstrate player development
and
2) Possess an arsenal of Xs & Os strategies. So many times in the past we'd sprint out to an early lead. Then our opponent would adjust and we had no answer.

Well, at least Chancellor Nichols could freaking dunk and break the stanchion.... “offensive threat” I don’t know. He did drop 30 or so on Vag tech that time.

Banks in the portal. Wilson and Lewis next maybe Parker too.

Could be a lot of turnover on this roster.

Nichols was 6'8" and a bull in a china shop. As such, he's not part of the 6'9" or taller curse. He was a force when his mind was focused.
