Hoops transfers forecast
So we have a new coach. Let’s have a little off season fun and take a stab at how many players will transfer out.
It could be zero, but the modern climate indicates a least a couple won’t like the new coach or won’t foresee enough playing time.
12 of 13 guys are scheduled to return.
Who do you think leaves, if any?

Of course, some of these could be addition by subtraction.
Dwight Wilson
Deshon Parker
Darius Banks
Matt Lewis
Zach Jacobs
Zyon Dobbs
Julien Wooden
Quinn Richey
Michael Christmas
Devon Flowers
Jayvis Harvey
Dalton Jefferson (I don’t think he is on scholarship)

Winner gets a giant bottle of hand sanitizer and Lysol spray.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
*Wilson stays- I still feel he can be our Jai Lewis
*Parker stays
*Banks leaves (to be the man somewhere else). He regressed this season and is Charles Cooke to Lewis's Andre Nation.
*Lewis stays, unless he is wooed by a local DC team and is convinced he will start. I think he has post graduate basketball aspirations. Even if courted, will he leave the opportunity of being JMU's all time scorer? He'll only have to average 17.3 pts if he plays 32 games to pass Stielper.
*Jacobs stays
*Dobbs leaves-wasn't highly recruited and new coach will want his spot
*Wooden stays ( I hope)
*Richey stays
*Christmas stays if the new coach & he hit it off. Otherwise, he may have lingering resentment about decreased playing time and look elsewhere.
*Flowers leaves. He is the 2nd coming of Gerron Scissom
*Harvey stays
*Jefferson stays but will not be on scholarship and rarely gets in a game. In an effort to impress the new coach, he tries working out like crazy and eating like a mad man. Sadly, he still can only get up to 178 lbs.

Just a guess but I think most stay and maybe you see more
Transfers after next year. I think these guys may give Coach Byington a shot.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
Dwight Wilson - Stays
Deshon Parker - Stays
Darius Banks - Stays
Matt Lewis - Leaves(really hope I'm wrong on this one)
Zach Jacobs - Stays
Zyon Dobbs - Leaves
Julien Wooden - Stays
Quinn Richey - Leaves
Michael Christmas - Stays
Devon Flowers - Leaves
Jayvis Harvey - Stays
Dalton Jefferson - Stays

Really hard to specifically say for each player. I feel like we'll lose one of Lewis/Banks. I went with Lewis since he had the chance to go play at a higher level but stayed loyal to Lou and now there's no Lou. Flowers got basically no playing time and I'm guessing he'll want to go somewhere he feels more sure that will change although I'd love to see that change here. Other than that I feel a couple freshmen will leave, decided to be optimistic and say that Wooden and Christmas won't be the ones.

I’ll jump in and say they all stay.

Wins or losses, they’ll be part of the original class at the new arena.

That and I think they generally like each other.

OR, of course they all bolt together and instagram instead. Lol

For a new coach to start developing his own vision of the program, I would like it if 2-3 guys left plus the Pinkard scholarship. Dobbs & Flowers at least

Banks, Wilson, Lewis, Flowers and Christmas all leave. Wooden from Roanoke and new coach is from Salem so he stays.

First year becomes a complete re-build.

Just curious where would those rising seniors go- are you familiar with their credit hours and course load to know if they can graduate in 3 years - the 3rd year being an abridged academic year due to the shutdown? Aside from that I say they all stay to usher in the new arena and leave as winners. Go Dukes!

I hear P5 schools are recruiting them and with their inflated egos I say they take the bait. You heard Lewis’s comment earlier this year about several of the players feeling they don’t belong at this level.

They have one year left and might want a fresh start. With the new transfer rules, leaving is now easier.

The new transfer rules haven’t gone into effect and the word is that they won’t since this off season is so strange with the shutdown.

Ok, not sure I can understand what Lewis was trying to say. Was he was saying that several of the players feel they have P5 talent? Or that several of the players don't feel they can play at the CAA level? Because objectively, there's easily a strong case for the latter.

If he's saying the former, why were the players so enamored w/ Coach Rowe? If I think I possessed talent to play at the P5 level (as supposedly several think), I'd be upset with my coach for pissing it all away. I would think in the CAA, a team with "several" P5 level players should dominate. We are the exact opposite. We stink.

Oh, and for the record, shooting percentages do not improve when you transfer up to higher level of competition. And none of these guys were lighting it up from the field playing our weak-ass schedule. Of the upper classmen, I think perhaps Matt could play P5 ball, but not the rest.

He was saying a lot of them could’ve played at a higher level and they just aren’t getting it done. He was defending Rowe saying that Lou did his job to get those guys to pick JMU over the other schools they could’ve gone to and to get them to stay at JMU but that they haven’t done their job on the court.

I'll be honest with you - unlike others on here, I don't care about transfers one way or the other when making a coaching in basketball. There are pluses and minuses either way. I thought when Cig came in it was important to keep as much in tack as possible. (which he did)

Good find NJ.

It is what it is. These guys didn't produce just as Lou Rowe didn't.

Byington will make do, and based on his last roster he may fill in the gaps and roster balance with some JUCO players.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
I mentioned a prospect in another thread- Zach Bryant. He was the leading scorer at UAB but was in the process of transferring to Ga Southern. PG would be a Junior next season and from Jacksonville FL originally. Not sure how that works and if he was enrolled at Ga Southern yet. Verbal commits just shows him as a verbal. Another transfer in prospect is a big from Temple (grad transfer) looks think but 6' 10" Ga Southern was listed among the teams who he has been in contact with. That kid is from Charlotte NC.

RE: Hoops transfers forecast
there was a theory with Banks that he was very close to Coach Rowe- from St Petersburg. I wonder if he can be a grad transfer- if so good for him- otherwise if he's sit one play one I don't see too many schools being that interested that would be mid or high major- low major maybe. Some of these kids may just go through the process because they have that flexibility. Banks is a talented kid and by all accounts a good kid as well. Would love to have him stay under the new coach but if he doesn't we will be ok as well.

Ha ha, that didn't last long. Anyway, I don't care if all of these guys leave. They didn't produce wins. More scholarships for the new coach to play with.
