How I'll watch the SBC Baseball tourney play out
So, I don't think I've ever tried to hide what a geek I am from others on this board. When I was a kid, as a nerd and a sports fan, that meant I really enjoyed both sabermetrics and tabletop baseball games. The most famous of these is probably Strat-O-Matic, but there are a ton of them out there at a wide range of complexity. Over the years, I've also thrown together some games of my own to play out sports on the tabletop, and so, with the current state of the world, I decided to return to the game design of 13-year-old me in order to create all of the Sun Belt baseball teams in a form where they can very simply play out a tournament.

I figured I'd post here in case anyone else was interested in taking part. I have an Excel file I'm using to generate the numbers (which I'll be happy to share); I'm getting stats from here. It's going to take me a while to get all of the players statted up, let alone play the games, so I am all for it if anyone else is geek enough to play along. (Some of you with coding skills may even be able to design a very fast way to input the data and/or play out the games.)

It's honestly all pretty simple (and simplistic) and really just needs some commonsense guidelines for carrying out full plays in order to be usable. The rules in a nutshell:

To see the result of an at-bat, first generate a random number from 1-100. (You can use an app or website, but I prefer a good old pair of d10s.) If the result is 1-50, check the pitcher’s table; if it’s greater than 50, check the batter’s. Finally, if the result is “In Play”, generate another number from 1-100, check it on the hitter’s “In Play” table, and resolve the play.

An example with a GSU batter and pitcher:

Merejo, Elian
98-100 HR
87-97 BB
78-86 K
51-77 In Play
In Play
86-100 2B
41-85 1B
36-40 OUT (fly 9)
31-35 OUT (fly 8)
26-30 OUT (fly 7)
24-25 OUT (fly 6)
21-23 OUT (ground 6)
19-20 OUT (fly 5)
16-18 OUT (ground 5)
14-15 OUT (fly 4)
11-13 OUT (ground 4)
9-10 OUT (fly 3)
6-8 OUT (ground 3)
4-5 OUT (fly 1)
1-3 OUT (ground 1)

Watson, Ryan
19-50 In Play
16-18 HR
12-15 BB
11 HBP
1-10 K

First AB: First roll is a 9. Check Watson’s table...Strikeout.

Second AB: First roll is a 61. Check Merejo’s table...In Play. Second roll is a 22...ground out to SS.

Third AB: First roll is an 89. Check Merejo’s table...Walk.

If you actually read through all of that...thanks!!
